Ausitria's most famous coffee beverage, the emperor's melange. Rich and filling - use organic eggs to be safe with the egg yolk. I post this as German recipe because JAP doesn't have Austrian recipes, but it is Austrian!!

1 large espresso
1 egg yolk (raw)
1 tsp honey
1 Tbsp cognac (1 shot)

Steps:

  • 1. Cream together raw egg yolk and honey.
  • 2. Brew one large espresso and slowly pour the hot espresso into the honey-egg mixture, stirring constantly to avoid curdling.
  • 3. Finish with one shot cognac.

  • Ireland- Irish Coffee. Now, this is not your typical coffee; an Irish coffee has a fair portion of alcohol in. I bet that sentence woke you up! Irish coffee has Irish whiskey in alongside hot coffee, cream and sugar.
  • Cuba- Cortado. A cortado is my favourite form of coffee, and whenever I travel, I strive to find an excellent cortado. It’s an equal amount of espresso and steamed milk.
  • Australia- Flat White. Coming close to my favourite coffee, flat whites originated in Australia. However, there are often quarrels between New Zealand and Australia when it came first.
  • Greece- Frappe. A cold coffee which has become extremely popular worldwide. You may see different versions of this extended to ‘Frappucino’. Its origin came about by mistake by a Nestle employ at a fair trade fair in Thessaloniki back in 1957!
  • Austria- Kaisermélange. Austria is another country renowned for its coffee culture, and popular coffee is the Kaisermélange. This coffee has honey, egg yolk, cognac and espresso.
  • Vietnam- Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Yup, the coffee is just so damn tasty in Vietnam you have to try many flavours! Another speciality is the Vietnamese iced coffee.

2016-04-04 The Kaisermelange consists of a raw egg yolk, which is whisked and mixed with honey and a double mocha (strong black coffee) and then flavored with a bit of cognac/brandy. Since the Kaisermelange is apparently no longer served in Viennese coffeehouses by regulations (raw egg yolk and so on), it is also a bit more understandable why it is so unknown among Viennese.
