This is a really inexpensive (under $2!) and easy brownie to make. I had to come up with a last-minute dessert so I took a brownie mix I had in the cupboard and decided to dress it up a bit. This was the result, which was a hit.

1 (10.25 ounce) package brownie mix
1 egg
¼ cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur (such as Kahlua®)
2 tablespoons instant coffee granules
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch square pan.
  • Combine brownie mix, egg, vegetable oil, coffee-flavored liqueur, instant coffee, and water in a large bowl; mix with a wooden spoon until batter is evenly moistened.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached, about 20 minutes. Let cool for 20 to 30 minutes before cutting.

1 teaspoon plus 2 tablespoons butter, divided
24 ounces Baker's white baking chocolate, coarsely chopped
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
1/3 cup Kahlua (coffee liqueur)

Steps:

  • Line a 9-in. square pan with foil; grease foil with 1 teaspoon butter. In a large heavy saucepan, cook and stir white chocolate over low heat until melted. Add milk and remaining butter; stir until blended. Remove from heat; stir in pecans and Kahlua., Spread into prepared pan. Refrigerate, covered, 2 hours or until firm. Remove foil; cut fudge into 1-in. squares. Store between layers of waxed paper in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter
3 ounces squares unsweetened baking chocolate
3 large eggs
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup tbsps Kahlua
1 tablespoon Kahlua

Steps:

  • Grease a 9" square pan.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  • Melt butter and chocolate together over low heat.
  • Beat eggs and sugar until light.
  • Add flour mixture, chocolate mixture and 1/4 cup Kahlua. Blend well.
  • Bake 30 minutes or until done.
  • Cool in pan.
  • Brush with remaining Kahlua.

Rich frosted chocolate brownies with walnuts have 2 secret ingredients--black pepper and Kahlua.

4 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup butter
¾ teaspoon black pepper
4 large eggs large eggs
1 ½ cups sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
⅓ cup Kahlua
1 ⅓ cups sifted all purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chopped walnuts or sliced toasted almonds
2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 (1 ounce) square semi-sweet chocolate
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons Kahlua
2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 cups sifted powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Conventional method: Line bottom of 13x9 inch baking pan with cooking parchment.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Melt chocolate and butter with pepper over low heat. Leave to cool.
  • Beat eggs with sugar and vanilla until blended. Stir in cooled chocolate mixture, then Kahlua.
  • Resift flour, salt and baking powder into mixture and stir well until blended and then add nuts and turn into baking pan.
  • Bake for approximately 25 minutes, until wooden pick inserted into center comes out clean. Be careful not to over bake.
  • Leave in pan to cool.
  • Prepare Kahlua Quick Fudge Frosting: Melt chocolates with butter over a low heat.
  • Heat Kahlua and heavy cream together.
  • Combine chocolate and Kahlua mixtures with powdered sugar and beat until well blended and thick. If necessary, beat in a little extra powdered sugar for good spreading consistency.
  • Frost brownies immediately as mixture stiffens upon cooling. Sprinkle with additional nuts, if desired.
  • Cut in about 30 squares or bars.
