I created these sandwiches when I realized I did not have a can of sloppy joe sauce. The sweet brown sugar in this recipe complements the tangy salsa. -Mrs. Krista E Collins, Concord, North Carolina

1 pound ground beef
1-1/3 cups salsa
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed tomato soup, undiluted
1 tablespoon brown sugar
8 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles; drain. Stir in salsa, soup and brown sugar. Cover and simmer 10 minutes or until heated through. Serve on buns. Freeze option: Cool and place in a freezer container; freeze up to 3 months. To use, thaw beef mixture in refrigerator; place in a saucepan and heat through. Serve on buns.

2 chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs or so)
1/2 jar (12 oz) Trader Joe's Pineapple Salsa

Steps:

  • Clean and jaccard your raw chicken. Put the uncooked chicken breasts in your slow cooker.
  • Pour the salsa over the chicken breasts. Add a little water (2-3 tablespoons).
  • Put the lid on and cook for 6-8 hours on low, or 3-4 hours on high heat.
  • Shred with a fork (it should be super tender) and let sit for another 10-20 minutes low on low heat before serving.

1 cup chopped onion
1 jar (16 ounces) salsa
1 can (15 ounces) sloppy joe sauce
16 to 20 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in salsa and sloppy joe sauce; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Spoon about 1/2 cup onto each bun.
