JIMMY'S SMOKED HAM

Jimmy's Smoked Ham image

It doesn't get better than hickory smoked! We have hickory trees on our property so we cut our own. Time 5h

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 10-lb uncooked ham
1 or 2 2 liter coke
seasoning salt
hickory
charcoal

Steps:

  • 1. Remove ham for refrigerater. Place in a large pot with coke and seaoning salt. Soak for 3 to 4 hours. NOTE: I soaked over night in the fridge.
  • 2. Meanwhile soak hickory in water. NOTE: we cut our own hickery and soaked over night.
  • 3. Place coals in smoker and fire them up. Once hot; place ham in smoker; add wet hickory on top of burning coals (this will smoke and that's what you want it to do). Add additional coals as needed.
  • 4. Smoke for about 5 hours. Slice and serve. NOTE: If you are unsure of the status of your smoked ham, then heating the ham until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees will ensure that it is safe to eat.
