JELLO WORMS: HOW TO MAKE A BOWL WORMS

Jello Worms: How to make a Bowl Worms image

These Jello worms are amazingly disgusting! So perfect for your next Halloween party!

Provided by Debbie Chapman

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 package Raspberry Jello (the regular sized box, not the large box)
3 packages Unflavoured Gelatin
3 cups Boiling Water
125 Flexible Straws
3/4 cup Whipping Cream
15 drops Green Food Colouring
1 Wide Mouth Mason Jar (4 cup size or Round Cylindrical Glass Vase (the dollar store will have something))

Steps:

  • In a large measuring cup, combine the Jello and the unflavoured gelatin.
  • Add the boiling water and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
  • Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes or until lukewarm.
  • Stretch each of the straws open to extend the flexible parts and then put the straws into the mason jar with the flexible side closer to the bottom.
  • Add the green food colouring to the whipping cream and stir until combined. (Just stir it, don't whip it).
  • Pour the whipping cream mixture into the Jello mixture and stir until it's well combined.
  • Pour the mixture through the top of the straws until it fills the container. The straws will self level so don't worry about filling each individual straw.
  • Chill for at least 8 hours.
  • Run each straw under hot water for a few seconds.
  • Pinch the straw from the top down to squeeze out each worm.
  • If you are making these in advance, squeeze the worms onto a waxed paper lined baking sheet and store, covered, in the fridge until you are ready to serve them.
  • These can be made up to 2 days in advance.

JELLO WORMS

Jello Worms image

This bowl of edible and yummy worms are not only for Halloween. It's also a great idea for April Fool's Day!

Yield 10 kids

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 oz Raspberry jello
1 package unflavored gelatin the entire box, for extra firmness
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
3 cups water to boil
15 drops green food coloring
100 flexible straws
1 liter carton of milk or any equivalent container

Steps:

  • Combine gelatin in bowl and add boiling water.
  • Let it cool to lukewarm and then add the whipping cream and 15 drops green food coloring.
  • Gather your straws (don't forget to flex them out) and put them in the container. It's important that the straws have a tight fit so the jello stays in the straws. For this reason, a 1 liter carton may be better; you will probably get longer worms since there is a tighter fit. If you have a bigger container, a rubber band around the straws is helpful. Or you could just add more straws to fill the container.
  • Add the gelatin mixture to the straw-filled container and let it set until firm.
  • There are multiple ways you can remove the worms from the straws. You can roll a rolling pin over the straws and squeeze them out or you can hold the straws over warm water. The worms will slip right out.
  • And voila! Jello worms are served.

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 small box Jello - any flavor
3 packets Knox Unflavored Gelatin
2 cups boiling water - for each batch of worms
1/2 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
Plastic Straws - the flexible kind, 1 box of 50
Rubber Band
10-12 drops liquid food coloring
Citric Acid - available from Ball Canning supplies
Glass - at least 4-5 inches tall
Plastic Squeeze Bottle
Pliers
Wax Paper

Steps:

  • Pull the flexible part of the straws out
  • Secure the straws with a rubber band. We used the whole box of 50.
  • Place straws in a glass. Height doesn't matter a whole lot, but it does need to be at least 4-5 inches tall
  • Combine Jello and Knox Gelatin in a small bowl, stir slightly. Add 2 cups boiling water and stir until dissolved, about 2 minutes. Let set about 20 minutes to cool slightly.
  • Add Whipping Cream and stir to combine. Add food coloring until desired color
  • Fill the squeeze bottle with jello mixture and partially fill straws until there is about 1 inch of liquid in the bottom of the glass. Place in freezer for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from freezer and continue filling straws until completely full
  • Place in fridge for at least 3 hours to set
  • Remove from fridge, pull apart straws and run under hot water to remove excess jello mixture
  • For each worm - run under hot water 2-3 seconds. Remove a small portion of worm from top of straw.
  • Use the pliers to hold the straw at the top and push the worm out onto a piece of wax paper
  • Sprinkle with Citric Acid if you want the worms sour
  • Store in airtight container in the fridge.

Time 2h40m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

Two 3-ounce packages strawberry gelatin dessert mix
One .25-ounce package unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 slice bread
1 box chocolate wafer cookies, for serving

Steps:

  • Put 3 cups water in a pan, bring to a boil and turn off the heat. Stir in the strawberry and unflavored gelatin until completely dissolved. Stir in the cream. Pour the hot liquid into a bowl and let stand until slightly thickened, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, using a tall drinking glass wide enough to hold all the straws, cut out a circle from the slice of bread to fit in the bottom of the glass. Bundle the straws together with a rubber band and stand them up in the glass, pressing the bottom ends into the circle of bread.
  • Using a spouted measuring cup, pour the gelatin mixture into the tops of the straws. Refrigerate until chilled and set up completely, 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  • Put the chocolate wafers in a resealable plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin. Arrange the crushed cookie on a plate or in a cleaned flower pot.
  • Use the back of a flat wooden spoon to push the gelatin out of the straws. Toss the jelly worms into the crushed cookies, leaving some to stick out.

JELLO WORMS

Jello Worms image

Number Of Ingredients 8

100 flexible plastic straws (The straws with a bendable neck make the most realistic worms by adding ridges to the worm. Place bendable necks of straws at the bottom of the container).
An empty, cleaned 1-quart milk or orange juice carton to hold straws.
1 (6-ounce) package raspberry or grape jello
3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
3 cups boiling water
3/4 cup whipping cream
12 drops to 15 drops green food coloring
waxed paper

Steps:

  • 1. Combine gelatins in a bowl and add boiling water; stir until gelatins completely dissolve. Chill until lukewarm, about 20 min. 2. Meanwhile, gently pull straws to extend to full length; place in tall container. Wrap together with a loose rubber band to hold straws together. 3. Blend cream and food coloring with the lukewarm gelatin mixture. Carefully pour into container, filling straws. 4. Chill until gelatin is firm, at least 8 hours, or cover and chill up to 2 days. 5. Pull straws from container or, if you're using a carton, simply tear the carton away from the filled straws. Pull straws apart. Run hot tap water for about 2 seconds over 3 to 4 straws at a time. Starting at the empty ends, push worms from straws with rolling pin, or use your fingers.

HOW TO MAKE JELL-O WORMS! A SPOOKY HALLOWEEN TREAT ...

From spendwithpennies.com
  • Stretch out the bendy part of all of your straws. Prepare your "worm mold" by placing the straws into your container. If using a milk carton, do not cut it, just open the top. The tighter they are packed in, the better.

JELLO WORMS {SERIOUSLY GROSS!} | MEL'S KITCHEN CAFE

From melskitchencafe.com
  • Choose a container that can hold at least 4 cups of liquid. It should be completely straight all the way up or have a slightly wider top than the bottom. Try to get a container as tall as it is wide and preferably even taller, otherwise the jello won’t fill the straws high enough. Extend each of the straws and pack the straws in as tightly as you can, adding more straws as needed to get a tight fit. Make sure that each straw is flush with the bottom of the container and that the bendable neck part (even though it is completely extended) is facing down. If your container is slightly wider on top than it is on the bottom, it may help, once the straws are packed tightly in, to rubberband the top of the straws to help when pouring in the jello.
  • In a medium, heat safe mixing bowl, preferably with a pourable edge, stir together plain and flavored gelatin powders. Pour the boiling water over the gelatin, stirring until it is fully dissolved. Allow the gelatin to cool for about 15 minutes, until it is slightly warm but not beginning to set. Stir in the whipping cream. Stir in the green food coloring until you get the desired color. You can see my worms were more gray than brown and I think I added about 10 drops of green food coloring so you may need to play around with the colors a bit, possibly adding a few drops of red or some other color.
  • Place your container of straws in a larger dish to catch any possible spills. With your container of straws prepped, gently pour the jello mixture over the straws. Don’t worry as you see the jello seeping up the sides of the container. If your straws are tightly packed in and flush with the bottom, they will still fill with jello.
