Steps:
- To assemble the sandwiches, butter both sides of each bread slice. Lay ham and cheese on one slice and cover with the another slice. Trim the crusts off the sides.
- Heat a saute pan over medium-low heat, then fry the sandwiches until the cheese starts to melt and the sandwiches are golden brown, about 3 minutes on each side. You may need to add more butter to the pan.
- Remove the sandwiches to paper towels to drain, let them cool for 1 minute, then cut into quarters diagonally and serve 3 quarters each per serving.

- Whisk first 4 ingredients in small bowl; season dressing with salt and pepper.
- Cut top crust (about 1/3 inch) off bread and discard. Cut bread horizontally in half. Arrange provolone cheese on cut side of bottom half, covering completely. Top with layer of salami, then ham. Mix olives, capers, and peperoncini in small bowl; spread relish over ham. Press top half of bread, cut side down, atop relish; spread with 1 1/2 tablespoons butter.
- Heat heavy large skillet over medium heat 3 minutes. Place sandwich, buttered side down, in skillet. Using another skillet, press sandwich to compact slightly. Cook until golden, about 5 minutes. - Heat gas or charcoal grill. Spray 25x18-inch sheet of heavy-duty foil with cooking spray. Without cutting all the way through, cut loaf of bread into 12 (3/4-inch) slices, cutting to within 1/4 inch of bottom.
- Stir together butter and mustard. Spread every other slice of bread with slightly less than 2 teaspoons mustard mixture, creating 6 sandwiches. Fold each slice of cheese in half diagonally; tuck each into sandwich. Divide ham evenly among sandwiches, tucking in to fit. Place loaf on center of foil. - Mix together Parmesan cheese, soft butter, and garlic powder.
- Build the sandwich as follows--on 4 slices of bread put 1 slice of cheese on each.
- Then put 2 slices of ham on each.
- Spread each ham slice with desired amount of mustard.
- Top with tomato slices and fresh basil, if desired, or just sprinkle a tad of dry basil on it.
- Cover with remaining slices of cheese and second slice of bread.
- Very carefully spread the butter, Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder mixture on both sides of the sandwich.
