IOWA CHOCOLATE CAKE



Iowa Chocolate Cake image

I'm from Manchester,Iowa. This recipe has been a family favorite for many generations. It's a very moist and wonderful cake! Enjoy!!!

Number Of Ingredients 9

3/4 cup(s) shortening
2 cup(s) sugar
1 1/2 cup(s) boiling water
2 cup(s) all purpose flour
2 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2 cup(s) cocoa powder
2 - eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla

Steps:

  • Put shortening and sugar in mixing bowl and pour over the boiling water. Stir and mix.
  • Sift dry ingredients twice and add to hot mixture.
  • Then add eggs and vanilla. Batter will be thin.
  • Bake in cake pan at 350 for about 25-30 minutes. A glass pan works best.
  • Let cool and frost with chocolate frosting!

Steps:

  • Cover shortening and sugar with boiling water. Add flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt, eggs and vanilla. And blend well. Bake at 375 degrees, 25-30 minutes in a 13x9-inch pan. Batter is thin. Test for doneness with toothpick. Makes 4-6 servings.
