INSTANT POT TURKEY CHILI

Instant Pot Turkey Chili image

Browning the ground turkey and aromatics on the "sauté" setting of the Instant Pot before simmering is essential for depth of flavor in this one-hour chili.

Provided by Riley Wofford

Categories     Food & Cooking     Ingredients     Meat & Poultry     Turkey Recipes     Ground Turkey Recipes

Time 1h

Yield Serves 6 to 8; Makes 8 cups

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 pound ground dark-meat turkey
1 large white onion, cut into 1/4-inch pieces (2 cups), divided
1 large poblano chile, seeds and ribs removed, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (1 cup)
3 cloves garlic, minced (1 tablespoon)
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1 cup frozen corn kernels
Shredded Monterey Jack cheese, cilantro leaves, and sliced jalapeno, for serving

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a 6-quart multicooker set to the high "Saute" setting. Add turkey, breaking up meat with the back of a spoon, until cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Add 1 3/4 cups onion, poblano, garlic, 2 teaspoons salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper to multicooker; cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are softened, 6 to 8 minutes. Add chili powder, cumin, and tomato paste; cook 2 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, chickpeas, corn, cooked turkey, and 1 cup water. Secure lid of multicooker.
  • Cook on high "Bean/Chili" setting for 20 minutes. Once time is complete, allow pressure to release naturally. Carefully remove lid. Adjust seasoning as desired. Serve with remaining 1/4 cup onion, cheese, cilantro, and jalapeno. To store, let chili cool to room temperature, then refrigerate in airtight containers up to 3 days.

INSTANT POT TURKEY CHILI

Instant Pot Turkey Chili image

Ground turkey is simmered with fire roasted tomatoes, green pepper, onions, garlic, beans and spices to produce a comforting bowl of chili that is topped with cheese, fritos and green onions. (P.S. you can also use ground beef in this recipe)

Provided by Karen

Categories     Chili

Time 44m

Number Of Ingredients 18

1 pound ground turkey or ground beef
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups chicken broth or beef broth
1 medium green pepper, diced
1 (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 (14.5 oz) fire roasted salsa style diced tomatoes
1 (16 oz) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup rinsed uncooked quinoa (optional)
1 (16 oz) can corn, drained
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 1/2 tsp to 1 Tbsp of chili powder (I don't love a lot of chili powder so I only put in 1 1/2 tsp)
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Toppings: diced green onions, grated cheddar, sour cream and corn chips

Steps:

  • Turn your instant pot to the saute setting. Add in the ground turkey and break it up with a wooden spoon. Brown it for a couple minutes and then add in the onions and garlic and saute until the onions are translucent. About 5 minutes. (If you're using ground beef you may have to drain off grease).
  • Add in the broth and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking. Then layer in the following: green pepper, crushed tomatoes, fire roasted tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, quinoa, corn, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Don't stir.
  • Cover and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to "sealing." Set the manual pressure cook button to 5 minutes on high pressure. When the timer beeps let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes (or more, if you have time). Move the valve to venting and when you can, open the pot.
  • Stir the chili and then season to taste. You may want to add in more chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper.
  • Ladle into bowls and serve topped with desired toppings. This chili tastes better as leftovers than it does the day of! Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. This chili would also freeze well. Freeze in airtight containers for up to 3 months.

INSTANT POT TURKEY CHILI

Instant Pot Turkey Chili image

Instant Pot Turkey Chili is a protein packed, healthy chili. This cooks quickly in the pressure cooker and is great for game day or family meals. It also freezes nicely for later!

Provided by Julia

Categories     Soups

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 18

2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 to 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup diced sweet onion
1 large red pepper bell pepper, seeds removed, chopped
1 jalapeño, seeds removed, chopped {optional for spice}
3 Tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon cayenne red pepper {optional for spice}
1- 15 ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed
2 - 15 ounce cans red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 - 15 ounce cans of diced tomatoes, drained
1 - 6 ounce tomato paste
1 cup chicken broth {divided-you will use 1/2 cup of the broth to deglaze the pot then you will add the 1/2 cup later in the recipe}
1 - 15 ounce can of corn, drained and rinsed
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Set a pressure cooker or Instant Pot to the normal sauté setting. Let it heat before adding the olive oil. Once heated add 2 Tablespoons olive oil and let the oil heat for about 20 seconds making sure the oil is covering the whole bottom of the Instant Pot.
  • Add the ground turkey to the Instant Pot along with a dash of salt and pepper and cook for about 2 minutes not stirring it {you want to create a layer of browning on the meat}. Use a large wooden spoon to break apart the turkey and continue to sauté until the turkey is browned, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Remove the turkey from the pot and drain the fat from the ground turkey and set aside in a bowl to discard {there won't be much fat with the turkey since it is pretty lean}. Add the remaining 1 Tablespoons olive oil to the InstaPot on the sauté mode still.
  • Add the garlic and onion and cook for 1 minute. Add the bell pepper, jalapeño, chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper and continue to sauté until the bell pepper is tender, about 2 to 3 minutes and the spices start to release their fragrance.
  • Add 1/2 of a cup of the chicken broth to help deglze your pot and allow all the food to release from the bottom of the pot. Use your spoon to deglaze the pan by scraping away all of the browned bits of food.
  • Add the ground turkey, beans, remaining 1/2 cup of the chicken broth, diced tomatoes, tomato paste and corn in that order {DO NOT MIX} and seal the pot. Cancel the sauté function.
  • Close lid and pressure cook on Manual at High Pressure for 5 minutes, followed by quick release when time is up. Turn off your Instant Pot and carefully open your lid.
  • Stir in fresh cilantro and a dash of salt and pepper.
  • Serve warm with your favorite garnishes like sour cream, cheese, cilantro and crushed chips.

INSTANT POT TURKEY CHILI

Instant Pot Turkey Chili image

Instant Pot Turkey Chili with ground turkey, beans, veggies and spices simmer for 15 minutes with a taste like it has been cooking all day.

Provided by Olena Osipov

Categories     Soup and Stew

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 18

1 lb ground turkey
1 cup any stock or broth (low sodium)
1 large onion (diced)
3 large garlic cloves (minced)
1 bell pepper (diced)
1 1/2 cups corn (canned or frozen)
14 oz can low sodium red kidney beans (rinsed and drained)
14 oz can low sodium cannellini or navy beans (rinsed and drained)
14 oz can low sodium pinto beans or black eyed peas (rinsed and drained)
2 tbsp chili powder (makes mild, 3 tbsp for spicy)
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp oregano (dried)
1/2 tsp paprika
3/4 tsp salt
28 oz can diced tomatoes (low sodium)
6 oz can tomato paste (low sodium)
Avocado oil
Green onion (cilantro, cheese, plain yogurt (for toppings))

Steps:

  • On 6 or 8 quart Instant Pot, press Sauté and let appliance preheat until display says Hot.
  • Swirl a bit of oil to coat, add ground turkey and cook for 4 minutes, breaking into small pieces with spatula often. Meat doesn't have to cook through.
  • If you see bottom of the pot has stuck browned bits of meat, add 1/2 cup broth and deglaze the pot. If not - then it's fine. My 6 quart Instant Pot runs hotter than 8 quart.
  • Press Cancel and add remaining 1/2 cup (if deglazed) or 1 cup broth.
  • Add onion, garlic, bell pepper, corn, beans, chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, salt, diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Do not stir to avoid Burn.
  • Close the lid, set pressure vent to Sealing and press Pressure Cook on High or Manual for 15 minutes.
  • After release pressure using Quick Release by turning pressure valve to Venting position, which takes 2-3 minutes. Open the lid, stir and serve hot with your favourite toppings.

INSTANT POT® TURKEY CHILI

Instant Pot® Turkey Chili image

It doesn't get easier than this! Brown some meat, then toss in the rest of the ingredients and hit start! Feel free to adjust the heat level by adding more chipotle peppers and/or adobo sauce. The cocoa powder and cinnamon are ideas I got from my favorite chili seasoning available at a local spice shop - they really transform the dish! I like to top this with sour cream, green onion and shredded smoked cheddar.
