INDIANA-STYLE FRIED CABBAGE
Get a taste of Indiana with this cabbage recipe. It is especially great served with ham or pork. You can omit the mushrooms if you are not a mushroom fan!

- Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until crisp. Stir in butter, cabbage, celery, green pepper, salt, pepper, mushrooms and onions. Cover skillet and steam for 15 to 20 minutes. Stir several times during the course of steaming.

FRIED CABBAGE
This is something my grandma used to make whenever we would come to dinner...when I was very young I hated it...but as I got older I grew into it and now its a favorite of mine....and its so simple.....

Steps:
- 1. in a large skillet heat the oil and sauté the onion until just starting to turn golden brown.
- 2. add cabbage and stir well to make sure all cabbage is coated with oil.
- 3. let cook for about 2 mins and then add the pepper and soy sauce. Cover and cook until cabbage is cooked through and tender. (you can also add 1 tablespoon minced garlic to this along with the soy sauce and pepper if you are a garlic lover, or if you like spicy add 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes for a good kick)

- Heat oil in a large wok over high heat. When the oil begins to smoke, add the mustard seeds, covering the wok with a lid or spatter screen. After the seeds stop sputtering, add the cabbage. Add the turmeric, garlic, salt and cayenne and toss well.
- Reduce the heat to medium and stir occasionally until crisp-tender. (The original recipe suggests you cover and steam the cabbage for 5 minutes but I don't have a cover so just mixed it around for 5 to 10 minutes.) Serve hot.
