Lucie's 7-Up Pie Crust (idiot proof pastry recipe) image

This is a really simple, never fails, like and flaky pastry crust. Not too sweet, perfect for meat pie or lemon marangue pie (where you don't want a sweet pastry to overpower your marangue). (enough for 2 1/2 complete pies)

5 cups pastry flour
1 lb lard
1 can 7-Up soda

Steps:

  • Cut lard into flour until it is the consistency of coarse oatmeal.
  • Add 7-up and mix thoroughly.
  • Place in fridge for approximately one hour.

I think I've substituted nearly every ingredient in this one at some time or another and it's always edible. Great for when you have nothing in the house for breakfast tomorrow.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/4 cup butter (or margarine)
1 cup sugar (less if brown, or non-calorie sweetener to equal same sweetness)
2 eggs (or egg substitute)
1 lb banana (measured with skins on, about 3 large or 4 small)
1 1/2 cups flour (cook longer if using whole wheat)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • mash bananas with a potato masher, don't use a blender, it gets too runny. add everything else and mix well.
  • pour into a greased loaf pan (you could probably use muffins tins and bake for less time, haven't tried).
  • bake at 350f for about an hour or until knife inserted comes out clean, remember it will firm up a little while cooling.

11 1/4 ounces all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 pound cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1/4 cup cold vegetable shortening, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
3 ounces iced water

Steps:

  • Put the flour, sugar and salt in a food processor. Pulse briefly to combine. Add the butter and shortening, pulse just until coarse crumbs form, about 30 seconds. Add the lemon juice and ice water. Pulse just until moist crumbs form. Turn the dough onto a work surface and gently shape it into 2 equal disks about 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate at least 1 hour or up to 1 day.
