How To Make Simple Fried Halloumi Cheese image

A super easy recipe for fried halloumi, perfect with a salad or as part of a Mediterranean sharing meze platter

225 g halloumi cheese
1 egg
2 tbsp flour
4 tbsp breadcrumbs
4 tbsp oil (for frying)

Steps:

  • Cut the halloumi cheese into slices about 0.5cm thick
  • Whisk the egg and put into one bowl, put the flour in another bowl and breadcrumbs in a third bowl
  • Dip the halloumi slices first into the flour, then the egg (shaking off exess egg) then the breadcrumbs
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the halloumi for about 2 minutes each side till golden

3-Minute Fried Halloumi Cheese Meze image

Halloumi is a fabulous cheese from Cyprus and a favorite in Greek cooking. It's an ideal frying cheese because it doesn't melt.

1 (8-ounce) package halloumi cheese (drained; cut into 3/8-inch slices)
1 tablespoon olive oil
Garnish: freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
Garnish: oregano or mint leaves
Garnish: 4 to 5 cherry tomatoes (cut in half​)
Garnish: balsamic vinaigrette

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients. Heat a nonstick frying pan over high heat.
  • Dry the halloumi cheese slices by blotting them with a paper towel. Place the slices on a plate and brush both sides lightly with the olive oil to coat each thoroughly.
  • Sear the cheese in the hot pan until each slice develops a deep brown crust, about 1 minute on the first side and 1 to 2 minutes on the other.
  • Place the fried cheese on a plate and garnish with the pepper, oregano or mint leaves, tomatoes, and vinaigrette.

  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the halloumi sticks, and cook until the cheese turns light, golden-brown, 1 to 2 minutes. Sprinkle with lemon juice, oregano, and pepper to serve.

8 ounces halloumi cheese
2 teaspoons olive oil
cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Slice halloumi into 6 equal slices, cut each slice in half, and dry with a paper towel. Brush all sides with olive oil.
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the halloumi slices in the basket, making sure they're not touching. You may have to cook in two batches,
  • Cook for 7 to 9 minutes until golden brown, but make sure not to overcook or they turn rubbery. Serve immediately.
