MARINATED GRILLED ARGENTINIAN RED SHRIMP

This delicious shrimp recipe has bright flavors and spices.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 lbs Argentinian Red Shrimp
1/2 cup olive oil
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 stick butter
2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
2 tbsp chives (chopped )

Steps:

  • Whisk together all ingredients for shrimp marinade in mixing bowl.
  • Place shrimp in a gallon sized sealable plastic bag and pour marinade over shrimp. Ensure shrimp is evenly coated, force air out of bag and seal. Place on a plate and put in refrigerator for 30 minutes to two hours.
  • Light grill and set up for direct high heat. Place small oven safe sauce pan on grill over indirect heat and add butter and garlic.
  • While grill preheats, skewer shrimp onto 12" wooden skewers.
  • Place shrimp directly over heat and grill for about two minutes, flip and grill an additional two minutes.
  • Remove from grill, baste with melted butter and garlic and garnish with chopped parsley.

1 pound Argentinean Pink Shrimp (thawed)
4 clove garlic
4 tablespoons butter (divided)
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
kosher salt
black pepper

Steps:

  • In a large sauté pan over medium to medium-high heat, melt two tablespoons of butter. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes Cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant, do not allow garlic to burn.
  • Add the shrimp to the pan. Cook for about 90 seconds, then turn and cook for 90 seconds more.
  • Add the other 2 tablespoons of butter, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute, or until butter is melted. Stir in parsley. Remove from heat.

Throughout the Florida Panhandle and along the Alabama coast, you'll find the oversize prawns at restaurants and fish shacks alike; when the boats are bringing them in, chefs and home cooks stock up on what they can get their hands on. At the state line-straddling Flora-Bama dive bar right on the beachfront, you can pick up a couple of pounds perfectly steamed to order, served simply with melted butter-the only condiment you need.

1 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons lemon zest, plus 2 1/2 Tbsp. fresh juice (about 2 lemons)

1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
2 pounds fresh royal red shrimp
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Preheat grill to medium (350°F to 400°F). Stir together butter, garlic, lemon zest and juice, thyme, pepper, and 1 teaspoon of the salt in a medium bowl until well combined.
  • Toss together shrimp, oil, and remaining 1 teaspoon salt in a large bowl. Grill shrimp, covered, just until shrimp are bright red and charred, 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Toss with lemony garlic butter, and serve immediately.

  • Cook stirring continuously until they have all curled a bit and are opaque.
  • Immediately transfer to a plate. Sprinkle with salt and serve.

1 pound royal red shrimp or spot prawns, (shells on if possible. )
Sauce of your choice

Steps:

  • Set a steamer insert into a lidded pot. If you don't have one, you can put the shrimp in a colander, or you can use a Chinese steamer if you have one. Pour in enough water so you can steam, but not enough to get the shrimp wet. Cover the pot and turn the heat to high.
  • When the water boils, put the shrimp into the steamer, cover the pot again and let this steam at full bore for 4 minutes. Turn off the heat, remove the shrimp and serve, peel and eat style.
  • NOTE: If you can't get shell-on shrimp, decrease the steaming time by a minute.

1 cup flour
3 pounds Royal Red Shrimp, peeled and de-veined, tail on (can substitute any shrimp)
4 ounces unsalted butter
2 ounces olive oil
1/4 cup white vinegar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
3 tablespoons hot sauce
1 pinch fresh thyme
1 pinch fresh oregano
2 tablespoons chopped green onion
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 bay leaves
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Mix spice seasoning and flour together. Lightly coat shrimp with seasoned flour. Heat a large skillet over high heat. Add butter and olive oil. Once hot, add shrimp (you may have to cook in batches or use 2 skillets if you can). Just after adding the shrimp, add vinegar, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, mustard, hot sauce, thyme, oregano, green onion, parsley, garlic, bay leaves, red pepper flakes, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until the sauce reduces and the shrimp is cooked, about 4 to 5 minutes. Serve as an appetizer with French bread.
