- Reuben Grilled Cheese: Swap rye for buttery white bread to make this twist on the classic Reuben. It’s stuffed with thick-sliced corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and an easy homemade Russian dressing.
- Hanger Steak Sandwich: A thick slab of grilled hanger steak makes this sandwich into a full meal. Add some marinated red onions for a nice little tang.
- Caprese Sandwiches: Get your Caprese fix even in the winter with this recipe, which swaps fresh tomato slices for homemade sauce. Basil pesto and mozzarella are added to the mix, then everything’s sandwiched between slices of ciabatta bread and baked.
- Pressure Cooker Italian Beef Subs: Juicy Italian beef fills these subs with flavor. Served with its leftover sauce on the side, the meat is made in a pressure cooker in just under an hour.
- Southwest Avocado Chicken Panini: This panini has a deliciously crispy exterior, but avocado makes it creamy inside. Filled with spiced chicken tenders and plenty of provolone, these sandwiches are cheesy and satisfying.
- Pear, Bacon, and Brie Panini: A pleasing blend of sweet and savory, this panini blends pears, bacon, and Brie for total sandwich heaven. (via Appetites Anonymous)
- Sweet Black Pepper Grilled Chicken Hoagies: Marinated in a sweet black pepper sauce, grilled chicken has enough flavor to stand up to the other ingredients in this hoagie.
- Garlic Bread Spicy Meatball Parm Sub: Make your meatball subs even better with a few flavor upgrades. Turn your sub rolls into garlic bread, and add some heat to your meatballs with Italian sausage and crushed red pepper flakes.
- Chicken Sliders With Apple Brussels Slaw: Tender shredded chicken, made with an apple barbecue sauce, makes up the bulk of these sliders. Top them with a Brussels sprout and apple slaw to add crunch.
- Cherry Camembert Grilled Cheese Sandwich: When cold winter comes around, you need more than just a basic grilled cheese to fill you up. Camembert turns this one into an elegant meal, while cherries add a deep pop of flavor throughout.

- Tuna Melt with Homemade Pickles. In search of a classic tuna melt? This one, from Palace Diner in Biddeford, Maine, is the best we’ve tried. The diner makes its own pickles, but of course you can start with store-bought.
- The BA Patty Melt. You may ask yourself, Does this sandwich really need mayonnaise? The answer is yes. A swipe of mayo, not butter, on the bread encourages that gorgeous exterior.
- Smoked Brisket Tortas. Creamy refried beans, iceberg slaw, and a slice of provolone provide the perfect backdrop for the tender, smoked brisket. View Recipe.
- Pressed Coppa Sandwiches with Broccoli Rabe Pesto. A pestro made of bitter broccoli rabe, sharp Pecorino, and a touch of honey are a welcome contrast to the salty coppa.
- Grilled Pimiento Cheese and Fried Green Tomato Sandwich (GPC) It doesn't get more Southern than this sandwich, from the Brown Bag Cafe in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
- Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. If you're making hot sandwiches for a crowd, you will never go wrong with grilled cheese. Set out various cheeses, breads, and fixings, then pop sandwiches on a baking sheet and cook in the oven.
- Fried Chicken Biscuits. Fried chicken on a hot buttered biscuit—what’s not to like? View Recipe.
- Cuban Sandwich with Zucchini Pickles. Sonoma, California's Park 121 makes its own zucchini pickles for these messy (in a good way) sandwiches; substitute with thinly sliced dill or bread-and-butter pickles if you like.
- Forager Sandwich. At High Street on Market in Philadelphia, chef Eli Kulp's hearty vegetarian breakfast sandwich delivers balanced doses of acid and texture with its mix of marinated king trumpet mushrooms, soft eggs, melted cheese, and a buttery toasted roll.
- Spiced Lamb Patties with Nutty Garlic Sauce. Okay, so it's not technically a sandwich. You’ll still love this spiced alterna-burger with its fresh finishes; kids will love the handheld dinner.
