Hot Dried Beef Spread image

This is another recipe from my mom's recipe box. It is used as an appetizer or snack to serve hot on crackers. She added to her recipe that it is best made the day before serving and kept in the refrigerator until use.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup pecans, chopped
2 teaspoons butter
16 ounces cream cheese
4 tablespoons milk
5 ounces chipped dried beef, minced
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 cup sour cream
4 tablespoons onions, minced
4 tablespoons green peppers, minced
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Melt butter in small oven tray.
  • Toss pecans in butter, spread on tray and toast in oven at 350 degrees for 8 minutes, or until lightly browned; set aside.
  • Mix all remaining ingredients throughly and place in a 9" pie plate.
  • Top with toasted pecans.
  • Chill in refrigerator until serving time.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, serve hot with crackers.

4 tablespoons milk
5 ounces dried beef, diced
1/4 small onion, diced
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon white pepper
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup pecans, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F
  • Combine the first six ingredients in a medium bowl. Fold in sour cream. Place in a small ovenproof dish and top with pecans.
  • Bake for 15 minutes until dip begins to bubble.

I'm a big fan of Reuben sandwiches and anything with that flavor combination. For an appetizer, I blend corned beef with Swiss and a few other items to make a spread for rye bread or crackers. -June Herke, Watertown, South Dakota

2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, cubed
4 cups shredded Swiss cheese
1 can (14 ounces) sauerkraut, rinsed and well drained
4 packages (2 ounces each) thinly sliced deli corned beef, chopped
1/2 cup Thousand Island salad dressing
Snack rye bread or rye crackers

Steps:

  • Place the first 5 ingredients in a 3-qt. slow cooker; stir to combine. Cook, covered, on low 4 to 4-1/2 hours or until heated through., Stir to blend. Serve spread with bread or crackers.

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons milk
2 ounces dried beef, chopped
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons minced onions
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 -2 tablespoon chopped pickled jalapeno pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Using an electric mixer, blend together softened cream cheese and milk.
  • Stir in dried beef, green pepper, onion, sour cream, garlic, pepper and jalapenos.
  • Mix well.
  • Pour into 1 quart baking dish.
  • Melt butter in small skillet.
  • Add pecans and saute over medium heat until light brown.
  • Spread over cream cheese mixture, and bake in a pre-heated 350*F oven for 20 minutes.

2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
¼ teaspoon ground red pepper
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups pecan halves
1 tablespoon chili powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, mix butter, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper, salt, and garlic powder. Stir in the pecans, and gently toss with chili powder to coat.
  • Spread coated pecans on a medium baking sheet, and cook 30 minutes in the preheated oven, stirring approximately every 10 minutes.

1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
3 cups pecan halves
2 tablespoons granular no-calorie sucralose sweetener (such as Splenda®)
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir cumin and cayenne pepper into the butter until dissolved, about 1 minute. Remove skillet from heat and immediately stir pecans, sucralose sweetener, and salt into the butter mixture to coat the nuts completely. Spread coated nuts onto a baking sheet.
  • Bake pecans in preheated oven until lightly browned, stirring occasionally, 25 to 30 minutes.
