Traditional hot mulled cider with white wine 'Glühmost', and the more common red wine version 'Glühwein' are served throughout the cold weather season, and are sold by-the-mug at outdoor Christmas Markets in Germany. Delicious!

EASY-PEASY GLUHWEIN (HOT GERMAN SPICED WINE/AKA "MULLED CIDER")
This is the super-easy version of Gluhwein. Don't waste space in the pot with fruit. The spices and heat will add a whole new level to the sangria! This is always a big hit at my Christmas parties! You can use 1 whole orange peel in place of the whole lemon peel, if desired.

- Place all the ingredients (except orange juice if you're using it) into medium sauce pan and bring to a simmer on medium low heat. Let the cider steep for 20 minutes. Do not boil!
- If you're adding the orange juice, pour it in at the end, stir gently and give it a minute or two to warm up.
- Pour the Glühmost through a fine mesh sieve to remove the spices bits and the lemon slices. Serve with an extra lemon slice and a cinnamon stick or star anise as garnish.
