Number Of Ingredients 13

2 pounds baby potatoes, skin on and cut into 1" pieces
1 (16 ounce) bag sauerkraut, (bagged, not canned) with liquid
1 lb polska (or turkey) kielbasa, cut into 1" slices
4-8 beef/pork or all turkey hot dogs, cut into 1″ slices
1/2 cup brown sugar or 1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped small
1/2 cup gala apple, peeled and chopped small
1 cup water
1 cup stock (beef, chicken or pork)
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1-2 tablespoon olive oil
parsley for garnish

Steps:

  • In a 5-6 qt Crock Pot, add in half of the sauerkraut, 1/4 cup onions, 1/4cup apples, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon chili powder and 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika.
  • Add olive oil to large skillet over medium-high heat and brown kielbasa slices until nicely caramelized on each cut side. ~5-7 minutes per cut side.
  • Place the caramelized slices in the crock pot.
  • Add the hotdogs to the skillet and brown on all sides. ~3-4 minutes per side.
  • Add on top of the kielbasa.
  • Add the remaining sauerkraut, water, stock, onions, apples, brown sugar, chili powder and smoked paprika.
  • Cover and cook for 1 hour on low.
  • Add potatoes and cook for another 3 hours or until potatoes are fork tender.
  • Sprinkle top with parsley and serve.

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan; cook on low heat until heated through. Serve over hot dogs.

This is so simple to make but tastes so good! My mom made this for us when we were younger and still a favorite of mine. Smoked sausage could also be used but I prefer the hot dogs. Serve this over mashed potatoes for total comfort food.

8 hot dogs, I use Ball Park
28 ounces sauerkraut

Steps:

  • In a large skillet add the sauerkraut. Place hot dogs on top of the kraut.
  • Cover and let simmer 15-20 minutes or until hot dogs are plump and hot.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes.

1.5 lbs. ground beef
2 10 oz. cans of Rotel
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 Large sweet onion
2 Tablespoons Butter
3 Tablespoons of Ancho Chili Powder
1 Tablespoon Paprika
1/2 Tablespoon Cumin
2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar (less if less sweetness is desired)
1 6 oz. can of tomato paste
2 Cups of Beef Broth
Salt to taste.
1 Package of Nathan's Colossal Beef Hot Dogs
8 White Hot dog buns
2 cups of shredded cheese
1 can of Frank's Kraut

Steps:

  • Preheat Smoker to 225º
  • Finely dice the sweet onion. Place 2 tablespoons of butter into cast iron Dutch oven over medium high heat. When onions are translucent, add diced garlic. After garlic has been in for 1 minute, add in the ground beef and salt. Brown the beef and drain. Return to Dutch oven and add in the remaining chili ingredients. Bring ingredients to a boil stirring regularly.
  • Once chili is well blended, place Dutch oven in the smoker with the lid off. Smoke for at least 2 hrs. up to 4 hrs. Stir chili every 45 minutes.
  • Grill hot dogs to desired doneness.
  • Assemble chili dogs, top with shredded cheese and Frank's Kraut!
