ITALIAN SODAS

Italian Sodas image

Having an Italian themed dinner party? Play some Italian music, stick some candles in old wine bottles, and let your guests make their own Italian sodas. My kids really like these. I buy my Torani Syrup at a store called World Market - they have many flavors and even sugar-free types. The flavor combinations are endless. Under directions I've listed a few of our favorite flavor combinations. Also, Torani syrup is so versatile for other things; drizzle some on a dessert plate, over cheesecake, lace a bowl of ice cream, or mix with some whipping cream for a new flavor. Mix some strawberry flavor with lemonade. Ok, I'll stop now.

HOMEMADE ITALIAN CREAM SODAS

Homemade Italian Cream Sodas image

This is a fairly standard recipe found on several websites for making Italian Cream Sodas at home. Making them yourself is far less expensive than buying them at your local mall or coffee hut. You can use any flavor of Torani (or similar brand) syrup that's used for flavoring coffee and is sold in most markets and large chain stores like Target and Wal-Mart. Experiment, and find your favorite flavor. I like a combo of raspberry and vanilla that was suggested by the Butter With Slice Of Bread site. The possibilities are endless! One bottle of Torani syrup makes about 14 Italian Cream Sodas.

Provided by Vickie Parks @Northwestgal

Categories     Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup(s) club soda
3 tablespoon(s) torani syrup, your choice of flavors
1 tablespoon(s) half & half
3 - ice cubes
- whipped cream, for garnish
- maraschino cherry, for garnish

Steps:

  • 1. Place ice cubes in a Collins glass (or tall tumbler). Pour the club soda over the ice.
  • 2. Add the flavored syrup to the glass, and stir a few times.
  • 3. Just before serving, add the half & half to the glass but don't stir. Let the cream slowly blend into the soda, creating a swirled pattern. (This is for effect, you will stir the soda before drinking.)
  • 4. Add a froth of whipped cream on top, then add a cherry, and serve with a straw. Stir the soda with the straw before drinking.

HOMEMADE CREAM SODA

Homemade Cream Soda image

Homemade Cream Soda is a super simple, nostalgic soda recipe that's easy to make at home and is so refreshing on warm summer days. Once you know how to make your own soda pop, you'll never go back to store bought.

Provided by Sue Moran

Categories     Drinks

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 5

3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup water
2 Tbsp vanilla extract Note: the quality of your extract will make a difference, so look for pure vanilla extract, and avoid artificial flavorings.
1 tsp lemon juice
plain soda water, for mixing.

Steps:

  • Heat the sugar and the water in a saucepan until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Remove the syrup from the heat, and stir in the vanilla extract and the lemon juice. Let the syrup cool and then store in the refrigerator.
  • Mix 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of the syrup into 8 ounces of soda water. Or, you can make a big batch of cream soda at once, using the same ratio of syrup to soda water.

  • Cola. I am amazed at how many different flavors there are in this cola recipe, from lavender to star anise. Yet, when you’re craving the deliciousness of a coca-cola, head over to your pre-made stuff instead.
  • Blackberry Lime Soda. Deborah, over at Taste and Tell Blog, couldn’t pass up this fruity summer drink. I like the idea of it being a lime flavored drink because the best soda (in my opinion) is Sprite.
  • Homemade Sugar-Free Grape Soda. This base recipe is super simple, with grapes, water, and lemon juice. The author, over at The View from the Great Island, makes a good point though: if you want the best tasting grape soda, you are going to have to bite into them to make sure they taste good because grapes can be hit or miss.
  • Root Beer Homemade Soda Recipes. The discussion over at Serious Eats is a good one, explaining how to tweak your drink if you prefer your root beer taste to be sweet or tart.
  • Lemon Lime. Lemon Lime sodas, such as sprite and seven-up, are my favorite flavor of soda. I love the fact that this one shows the food being made. Got lemons and limes?
  • Ginger Ale. Ginger Ale is great for upset stomachs and making your own is even better. Part of what makes this drink so wonderful is that you can make the syrup and add the carbonated water when you are ready for it.
  • Homemade Italian Cream Sodas. Now that you have a few syrups down, everyone should have a recipe for Italian Cream Soda. This sweet treat has just a smidge of half-and-half and whipping cream with cherries on top.
  • Cherry Limeade. Since you have a recipe for lemon-lime syrup and can make a soda similar to Sprite, this is another great way to use the same recipe: make a Cherry Limeade.
  • Spicy Watermelon Soda. This sweet treat has a bit of spice to it. I wouldn’t have the seeds with mine but I could see my husband drinking it with spice and all.
  • Sparkling Raspberry Pineapple Freeze. What a fun, unique way to use the soda stream! This recipe calls for a pre-made mix but you can use what you made yourself and add in frozen fruit.
