Make classic cream soda at home with this simple recipe from Anton Nocito of P&H Soda and Syrup. Also Try:Grapefruit Soda Syrup, Quince Soda Syrup

Yield Makes about 20 ounces

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cups cane sugar, preferably organic
Juice of 1 lemon
1 vanilla bean, split and seeded
Ice cubes, for serving
Seltzer water, for serving

Steps:

  • Place sugar and 1/4 cup water in a medium nonreactive saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat until sugar is caramelized.
  • Carefully add 2 cups water and lemon juice; add vanilla bean and seeds and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let stand for 1 hour.
  • Discard vanilla bean and transfer syrup to an airtight container. Syrup may be kept, refrigerated, for up to 2 weeks. To serve, fill a 16-ounce glass with ice cubes and add 1 1/2 ounces syrup; top with seltzer and stir to combine.

1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Seltzer water, for serving

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar with 3/4 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer; stir until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and lemon juice. Refrigerate until cold.
  • Serve the syrup with seltzer over ice (3 to 4 tablespoons per 8 ounces of seltzer.) The syrup keeps refrigerated in an airtight container up to 2 weeks.

3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup water
2 Tbsp vanilla extract Note: the quality of your extract will make a difference, so look for pure vanilla extract, and avoid artificial flavorings.
1 tsp lemon juice
plain soda water, for mixing.

Steps:

  • Heat the sugar and the water in a saucepan until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Remove the syrup from the heat, and stir in the vanilla extract and the lemon juice. Let the syrup cool and then store in the refrigerator.
  • Mix 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of the syrup into 8 ounces of soda water. Or, you can make a big batch of cream soda at once, using the same ratio of syrup to soda water.

1/8 teaspoon kool-aid unsweetened lemonade mix
1 cup very hot water
1 cup corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, plus
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
10 cups cold soda water

Steps:

  • Dissolve the sugar and Kool-Aid drink mix in hot water in small pitcher.
  • Add corn syrup and vanilla extract. Stir well.
  • Cover and chill syrup until cold.
  • When the syrup is cold, pour 1/4 cup syrup into 1 cup cold soda water. Stir gently.
  • Add the syrup and soda water mixture to the pitcher of sweetened Kool-aid. Stir gently.
  • Add remaining syrup and soda to the pitcher.
  • Stir gently, add ice and serve.

1 box yellow cake mix
1 can cream soda
4 eggs
1 pkg instant vanilla pudding
1½ cups cups confectioner's sugar
1 tbsp cream soda

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350F degrees.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together 1 yellowcake mix, 4 eggs, 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix and 1 can cream soda.
  • Stir until thoroughly mixed together and the dry ingredients have been fully incorporated.
  • Prepare a greased baking pan. Pour the cake mix into the pan and bake at 350F degrees for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Set aside to cool.
  • In a small mixing bowl, mix together 1 ½ cups confectioner's sugar, and 1 tbsp cream soda. Stir until well combined and a thick glaze is formed. If the glaze is too thick to drizzle, add a few more drops of cream soda and continue stirring until the glaze thins out a bit.
  • When the desired consistency is reached, use a fork or spoon to drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake. Serve fresh and enjoy!
