¾ cup water
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup vodka
1 tbsp almond extract
2 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Combine the water & sugars in a medium saucepan & bring to a boil.
  • Continue cooking until the sugars are completely dissolved.
  • Remove from the heat & allow to cool for at least 15 minutes.
  • Once cooled, stir in the vodka & extracts.
  • Pour into desired gift bottles or mason jars & label with the date.
  • Store in a cool dry place.

1/2 cup water
3 cups vodka
3/4 teaspoon almond extract

Steps:

  • In a small sauce pan over medium heat bring 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup water to boil.
  • Let boil for 2 minutes to make a syrup.
  • Set aside to cool slightly.
  • When cooled mix 3 cups vodka, almond extract and 1 cup of the syrup mixture.
  • It's ready to bottle.

3 cups blanched slivered almonds
1 ½ cups white sugar
3 egg whites
1 teaspoon almond extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a food processor, grind the almonds into a fine meal. Add the sugar and continue to process for another 15 seconds. Finally, add egg whites and almond extract, continue to process until a smooth dough forms around the blade.
  • Using a teaspoon, place well rounded spoonfuls of dough onto prepared baking sheets. Cookies should be at least 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes. Cookies should be golden. Allow cookies to cool completely on the paper before removing. Store in a dry place.

I can't believe I haven't posted this! It's a big hit in my family, I get requests for it every year around Christmas. The key to this is to get your syrup thick before adding the vodka--this is what makes it indistinguishable from Di Saronno, at a much reduced cost.

1 cup water
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups vodka
2 tablespoons almond extract (NOT imitation)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Combine water and sugars in a very large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Heat until the mixture is boiling and all sugar is dissolved.
  • Reduce heat to low and continue to simmer for approximately 2 hours until mixture is thickened and syrupy and lightly coats a spoon.
  • Remove pan from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  • Add vodka and extracts and stir well.
  • Pour into a bottle and seal.

  • Using a medium saucepan bring the water and both sugars to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir frequently and continue to cook until the sugar has completely dissolved, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let cool for 15 minutes.
  • Once the mixture has cooled stir in the vodka, almond extract, and vanilla extract. Let finish cooling if still warm before bottling.
