HEAVENLY EARTH BURGERS



Heavenly Earth Burgers image

Packed with nutrition, these rice-and-bean patties from Wendy McGowan in Fontana, California make a fun, filling, hand-held entree. Fresh parsley and carrots add flecks of color, and sunflower kernels a touch of crunchiness.

Number Of Ingredients 16

1-1/2 cups cooked brown rice
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup sunflower kernels
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 cup shredded carrot
3 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 egg
1 egg white
1 cup garbanzo beans or chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1-1/2 teaspoons canola oil
6 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
6 lettuce leaves
6 slices tomato
6 slices onion

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first 8 ingredients. In a food processor, combine the egg, egg white and garbanzo beans; cover and process until smooth. Stir into rice mixture. Shape into 6 patties. , In a nonstick skillet, cook patties in oil for 5-6 minutes on each side or until lightly browned and crisp. Serve on buns with lettuce, tomato and onion.

This recipe comes from my Aunt Bonnie and tastes heavenly!!! It has a wonderful flavor and is great with garlic bread and a salad.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 lbs ground beef
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
30 ounces tomato sauce
16 ounces egg noodles
1 pint sour cream
8 ounces cream cheese
onion powder
2 cups mozzarella cheese, grated
2 cups cheddar cheese, grated

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef then drain and add sugar, salt, garlic powder and tomato sauce. Let simmer 10 minutes.
  • Boil 16 oz egg noodles, drain, and add sour cream and cream.
  • cheese and onion powder to taste.
  • Layer ½ meat mixture, noodles, and then repeat in oblong pan.
  • Sprinkle with 2 cups mozzarella and 2 cups cheddar cheese, grated. Bake at 350 for 20.

This was a staple when my mom was dieting, as it's an OLD Weight Watcher's recipe ... doesn't taste like diet food tho'. I have found that it is vastly adaptable as I have also made it with ground turkey, ground chicken, cubed chicken and just a variety of seasonal veggies. As long as you have the basics, be creative.

1/2 pkg egg noodles
1/4 c water
1/4 c small yellow onion, diced
1/4 c celery, diced
1 lb lean ground beef (90/10 or better)
1x14.5 oz canned diced tomatos, with liquid
4 slice american cheese slices
to taste salt & pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Cook noodles as per package directions
  • 2. While waiting for noodles, lightly sauté onions & celery in water, 2-3 minutes (not quite tender crisp)
  • 3. Add ground beef and cook until done
  • 4. Add diced tomatoes, with liquid. Reduce heat and simmer (until noodles are done.)
  • 5. Drain noodles and add to meat mixture, stirring in completely.
  • 6. Place cheese slices on top. Cover until melted. Stir and serve.

Is it possible to have a chicken or turkey burger that tastes better than a beef one? I didn't think so until now. Here's my latest invention without all the extra fat that beef burgers have and so delicious. Please make sure you use an authentic high quality soy sauce. Cheap brands such as Le Choy will not do. Serve with carmelized onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle and your favorite condiment and enjoy!

2 1/4 lbs ground chicken or 2 1/4 lbs turkey
1/4 cup dark hi-quality soy sauce
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
3 cloves freshly crushed garlic or 1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons oregano
2 tablespoons cumin powder
salt and hot pepper or black pepper, as desired

Steps:

  • Mix well and form into patties.
  • Grill or pan fry until lightly browned on both sides.
  • Serve with carmelized onions (onions sauted in oil over low heat until nicely browned).
  • Enjoy!

This vegan mushroom burger is made with chickpeas, oats, and chopped mushrooms. It's super delicious, incredibly healthy, and easy to make!

3 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
5 tablespoons water
1 1/2 cups canned chickpeas, drained
1 onion, chopped
1 clove of garlic, minced
1/2 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
1/2 cup rolled oats, ground to oat flour
6 mushrooms, cut into small pieces
1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon paprika powder
1 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon basil
1/2 cup rolled oats
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste
red pepper flakes, to taste
4 whole wheat buns
2 tomatoes
1 red onion, cut into rings
4 tablespoons sunflower tomato spread (You can also use ketchup, mustard, or any other burger sauce instead.)

Steps:

  • Combine the ground flax seeds with the water and put aside to soak. In a large bowl, mash the chickpeas with a fork, leaving some chickpeas intact for texture.
  • Put 1/2 cup of rolled oats into a blender or food processor and ground into a fine powder of flour by pulsing several times.
  • In a small pan, heat some oil and sauté the onions and the garlic for about 3 minutes. Together with the remaining ingredients, add them to the chickpeas and mix well. Form four large burger patties (or 6 smaller ones).
  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper and put the burger patties on top. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 °F. Flip them after the first 15 minutes.
  • Cut the whole wheat buns in halves and cover both halves with the sunflower tomato spread. Alternatively you can of course also use ketchup, mustard, or any other burger sauce. Serve the mushrooms burgers with tomatoes, lettuce, and red onions.

  • In a bowl or shallow dish, mix the buttermilk with the hot sauce well. Should be a lovely shade of pink. Place the onions into the buttermilk mixture and make sure they’re submerged. Cover tightly and place in the fridge to get happy for at least 3 hours, longer is better.
  • Mix the flour, cornmeal, panko together well. Add a tbsp of dried parsley. Liberally season the flour with your seasoning of choice.
  • When you’re ready to batter up your onion rings: lift them out with a fork and toss into the flour mixture. Make sure they’re evenly coated. Do this with every ring, then place into the refrigerator for about 20 minutes (no longer than 10 minutes in the freezer) to help them set up and prevent your flour mixture from floating off into the oil.
  • When ready to fry, heat your oil to 375 degrees. Remove the onion rings from the freezer and gently place into the oil and fry until golden brown. Immediately season with salt when you take them out of the oil.
