This is a recipe originally found in Taste of Home. It is a wonderful loaf of bread to serve warm with a favorite soup or stew.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups unbleached flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oats, plus
2 tablespoons oats, divided
1/4 cup sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 1/2 cups milk (can use fat-free)
3 tablespoons canola oil

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flours, 1/2 cup oats, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine the egg, milk and oil; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  • Spread batter into an 8 or 9 inch round baking pan that has been coated with a non-stick cooking spray. Sprinkle with remaining oats.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the bread to cool for 5 minutes before removing from the pan. Cool on a wire rack.

6 cups whole wheat bread
1 tablespoon instant yeast
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup oats
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 1/4-2 1/3 cups boiling water

Steps:

  • Grease pan and preheat oven 350°F.
  • Mix all dry ingredients.
  • Add in wet ingredients.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic.
  • Place in greased bowl, cover and rest until double. About 40 minute.
  • Divide into 3 7x3 loaf pan (approx 463g / loaf). Proof about 30 minute.
  • Bake 30-35 till brown top.

Number Of Ingredients 7

3/4 cup old fashioned oats (or 1 cup)
1 1/4-1 3/8 cups water (or 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 cups)
3 tablespoons molasses (or 1/4 cup)
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar (or 2 tablespoons)
1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or 2 teaspoons)
3 cups bread flour (or 4 cups)
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast (or 2 teaspoons)

Steps:

  • Use the least amount of liquid listed in the recipe!
  • Place all ingredients in bread pan, in the order recommended by your brand of machine.
  • Select Basic/Standard and Light Crust settings; Press Start.
  • Observe the dough as it kneads; After 5 to 10 minutes, if it appears dry and stiff or if your machine sounds as if it's straining to knead it, add more liquid 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough forms a smooth, soft, pliable ball that is slightly tacky to the touch.
  • After baking, remove from pan and cool for one hour before slicing; great toasted!

3/4 cup raisins
1 1/3 tablespoons gluten

Steps:

  • Add first nine ingredients plus gluten to machine in order.
  • Select White or Whole Wheat, Regular or Rapid Cycle.
  • Add raisins to the dough after the first rising.

1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/3 cup evaporated milk
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3/4 cup quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon rubbed sage
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup ketchup

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, oats, onion, salt, sage and pepper. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. , Press into an ungreased 8x4-in. loaf pan. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 1-1/4 hours; drain., Spread ketchup over meat loaf. Bake until meat is no longer pink and a thermometer reads 160°, about 10 minutes longer. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
