They may take a few hours to complete, but the reward of popping these hot boiled peanuts in your mouth is well worth the wait. Expect the juice to drip down your chin as you eat them, it's just part of the tradition and nothing to be ashamed of.

Number Of Ingredients 2

2 lbs. of Raw Peanuts, in the shell.
1/4 cup of Morton Table Salt, or similar.

Steps:

  • Place the raw peanuts in a sink of water and swirl them around to remove any dust and dirt.
  • Place in a colander, rinse again and let drain.
  • Fill a large stockpot about 3/4's full of water.
  • Add the washed raw peanuts.
  • Place stockpot on stove and turn the heat to Medium-High, let come to a rolling boil.
  • Cover the pot, reduce the heat to Medium and let boil for about 3 hours.
  • Add the salt, stir. You can also add hot water if needed at this point.
  • Taste the peanuts about every 30 minutes from here on until cooked to desired doneness.
  • Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Serve warm and enjoy.

Hawaiian style boiled peanuts offer a different flavor profile than their Southern counterpart, with star anise and fresh ginger!

1 lb raw peanuts in the shell (not roasted peanuts)
1/4 cup coarse Hawaiian sea salt (I used Red Alaea Hawaiian sea salt)
5 Whole Pieces of dried star anise pods
2 inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced thinly
Enough water to cover the ingredients

Steps:

  • Rinse and sort the peanuts, discarding any debris or severely cracked shells.
  • In the insert pot of the Instant Pot, combine peanuts, salt, star anise, and ginger. Add enough water to cover.
  • Place trivet on top of the peanuts and use a heatproof dish to weigh down the trivet. This will help the peanuts stay submerged in liquid.
  • Close lid and set the vent to the sealed position. Select a cook time of 80 minutes at high pressure. Once the cook time is complete, allow a natural pressure release.
  • When the pressure has released and the valve has dropped, carefully remove the lid. Use tongs to remove the dish and trivet.
  • Enjoy warm or allow to cool.

Instant Pot boiled peanuts make the perfect salty snack. What would normally take hours can be made in half the time in the comfort of your own home.

1 pound raw peanuts, shell on
1/2 cup Hawaiian salt
8 cups water

Steps:

  • Rinse peanuts under running water to remove impurities.
  • Pour peanuts, salt, and water in the inner pot of the Instant Pot.
  • Place the trivet and a bowl (any oven safe Pyrex, glass, or ceramic) over the peanuts to keep them submerged under the water. Cover and set to sealing.
  • Cook on manual high pressure for 60 minutes. Allow natural pressure release for 30 minutes.
  • Remove inner pot and drain water. Cool and ENJOY!

1 pound raw peanuts
1/4 cup Hawaiian sea salt
6 whole pieces of star anise
4 inch piece of ginger, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
10 cups water

Steps:

  • Rinse the raw peanuts and pick out any debris. Place the raw peanuts in a large pot.
  • Top with the sea salt, star anise, ginger, and black peppercorns. Cover with water.
  • If cooking with the Instant Pot/pressure cooker, use the manual setting, and cook on high pressure for 45 minutes.

3 tablespoons hawaiian salt
1 star anise

Steps:

  • Wash peanuts until water is clear. Add water to cover peanuts and soak overnight. Put weight on so that peanuts are soaking.
  • Drain and rinse several times until water is clean.
  • Add star anise; cover and boil for 30 to 45 minutes, testing to see that peanuts are cooked, but not soft. Do not overcook. Turn off heat, add salt and mix.
  • Cover and let stand for approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
