This strata is the ideal dish to make when guests are coming over for brunch. Let the eggs soak into the bread overnight and then bake it first thing in the morning.

Number Of Ingredients 11

8 cups bread cubes
2 cups frozen chopped broccoli
2 cups diced cooked ham
8 large eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3 cups 2% or homo milk
2/3 cup sliced green onions
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp white pepper
1/4 tsp hot pepper sauce

Steps:

  • Layer bread cubes, broccoli and ham in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Combine remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour over bread mixture; cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
  • Remove baking dish from refrigerator and let stand for 20 - 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 325ºF.
  • Bake, uncovered until a knife inserted in centre comes out clean, about 50 - 55 minutes.

Broccoli and Cheddar Strata image

Reinvent leftover hot dog buns by turning them into this cheesy broccoli strata.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more, for the baking dish
3 cups half-and-half
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
10 large eggs
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 cups bite-sized broccoli florets
12 ounces hot dog buns, cut into 1-inch cubes, preferably stale (about 6 cups)
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar

Steps:

  • Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  • Whisk the half-and-half, Parmesan, eggs, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and a few grinds of pepper together in a large bowl.
  • Bring a medium pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and simmer until crisp-tender, 3 to 4 minutes; drain.
  • Layer half of the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups of the Cheddar, followed by the broccoli. Cover with the remaining bread cubes and pour the half-and-half mixture evenly over top. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. (This can also be assembled the day of; just let soak at room temperature 30 minutes to 1 hour before baking.)
  • On the day of baking, preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Let the strata sit at room temperature while the oven preheats. Remove the plastic and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup Cheddar. Bake until slightly puffed and just no longer jiggly in the center, 40 to 50 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

14 slices white bread, crusts trimmed
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, grated
10 ounces frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped
5 eggs
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups milk

Steps:

  • Butter a 13 x 9 baking dish. Layer 7 slices of bread on bottom of dish. Sprinkle half of cheddar cheese over bread slices.
  • Layer thawed chopped broccoli, onion, ham and tomato over cheese and bread layers. Top with remaining cheese and bread slices.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients, beat well. Pour egg mixture over layered ingredients in baking dish.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours or overnight.
  • Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 - 50 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.

2 (10 ounce) packages frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
3/4 lb thinly sliced deli ham, cut into 1/2-inch strips
2 cups shredded swiss cheese
1 loaf French bread, cut in 1-inch slices
6 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups milk
3 tablespoons dried onion flakes
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1/2 teaspoon paprika

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, ham and cheese; spread half the mixture into a greased 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Arrange bread slices on top and cover with remaining ham//cheese/broccoli mixture. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, milk, onion flakes, mustard and hot pepper sauce. Pour over broccoli mixture. Sprinkle with paprika. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

5 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup half-and-half cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 cups cubed Italian or French bread (about 6 ounces)
1-1/4 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese, divided
1 cup cubed deli ham (1/2 inch)
1 cup cut fresh asparagus (1-inch pieces)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk the first six ingredients until blended. Stir in bread, 1 cup cheese, ham and asparagus. Transfer to a greased 8-in. square baking dish. Refrigerate, covered, several hours or overnight. , Preheat oven to 325°. Remove strata from refrigerator while oven heats. Bake, uncovered, 20 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; bake 40-50 minutes longer or until puffed, golden and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 5-10 minutes before serving.Freeze option: After assembling, cover and freeze strata. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
