When I make this pasta salad, I usually pair it with hot dogs, fried chicken, or sandwiches. I also make it whenever I have leftover ham. This is a recipe with ingredients that can be easily changed to suit your own taste.

½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon milk, or more to taste
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 (16 ounce) package farfalle (bow-tie) pasta
8 ounces cooked ham, cut into 1-inch cubes
8 ounces Cheddar cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 cup frozen peas, thawed
½ cup minced onion
1 stalk celery, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons diced pimento

Steps:

  • Whisk mayonnaise, pickle relish, and milk in a bowl until combined; season with salt and black pepper. Chill in refrigerator while preparing remaining ingredients.
  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook bow-tie pasta at a boil, stirring occasionally, until cooked through yet firm to the bite, about 12 minutes; drain and transfer to a large bowl.
  • Gently stir ham, Cheddar cheese, peas, onion, celery, and pimento into pasta. Pour mayonnaise mixture over pasta mixture and toss to evenly coat.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate 4 hours to overnight.

1 lb shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 lb cubed ham
1 lb frozen tiny peas, defrosted
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup salad dressing (recommend Miracle Whip)
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
3 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped or 1 tablespoon dried dill

Steps:

  • Place cooled cooked pasta, ham, cheese, peas and cheese in a large bowl; mix well.
  • Add mayonnaise, Miracle Whip, seasoning salt, pepper, garlic salt and dill. Mix until everything is well coated and evenly distributed.
  • Chill well before serving.

6 cups uncooked bow tie pasta
2 cups julienned fully cooked ham
1/3 cup crumbled blue or feta cheese
1/3 cup minced fresh parsley
1 garlic clove, minced
1-1/2 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary or 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/3 cup olive oil
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans, toasted
Grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and rinse in cold water. Transfer to a large bowl., Stir in the ham, blue cheese, parsley, garlic, rosemary and pepper. Add oil and pecans; mix well. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.

12 ounces salad greens (spring mix)
1/2 cup dried cherries
1/2 cup pecan halves
6 ounces blue cheese chunks
2 whole apples, cored and sliced very thin
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon (heaping) Dijon
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (or more to taste)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Add the greens, cherries, pecans, cheese and apples into a large salad bowl.
  • Mix the olive oil, Dijon, maple syrup and vinegar in a small jar and sprinkle with and salt and pepper. Put the lid on the jar and shake well to mix.
  • Pour a little of the salad dressing over the top of the salad and toss to combine. Taste the salad and add more dressing to taste.

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup torn fresh basil leaves
1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
1 teaspoon salt

½ cup half-and-half cream
½ cup olive oil
1 green bell pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
½ cup chopped fresh parsley
⅔ pound Jarlsberg cheese, cut into matchsticks
½ cup toasted, chopped pecans
¼ pound grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente. Drain and toss with 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large bowl; set aside.
  • Whisk together the garlic, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, half-and-half, an 1/2 cup olive oil in a bowl. Toss with the cooked spaghetti. Add the green bell pepper, red bell pepper, parsley, Jarlsberg, and pecans. Toss the salad again to mix, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese to serve.

1/2 c. very finely chopped onion
1 c. mayonnaise
1 T. white vinegar
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

Steps:

  • Cook macaroni in boiling salted water according to package directions. Drain well.
  • Place warm macaroni in a large bowl; toss with 2 tablespoons vinegar.
  • Stir in cubed cheese, ham, peas, and onion. Set aside to let noodles absorb the vinegar.
  • Prepare dressing in a separate smaller bowl: Whisk together mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour over the macaroni mixture and stir until well combined.
  • Cover and chill for at least an hour before serving. Or, chill overnight to allow the flavors to fully meld.
