This strata is the ideal dish to make when guests are coming over for brunch. Let the eggs soak into the bread overnight and then bake it first thing in the morning.

Number Of Ingredients 11

8 cups bread cubes
2 cups frozen chopped broccoli
2 cups diced cooked ham
8 large eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3 cups 2% or homo milk
2/3 cup sliced green onions
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp white pepper
1/4 tsp hot pepper sauce

Steps:

  • Layer bread cubes, broccoli and ham in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Combine remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour over bread mixture; cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
  • Remove baking dish from refrigerator and let stand for 20 - 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 325ºF.
  • Bake, uncovered until a knife inserted in centre comes out clean, about 50 - 55 minutes.

14 slices white bread, crusts trimmed
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, grated
10 ounces frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped
5 eggs
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups milk

Steps:

  • Butter a 13 x 9 baking dish. Layer 7 slices of bread on bottom of dish. Sprinkle half of cheddar cheese over bread slices.
  • Layer thawed chopped broccoli, onion, ham and tomato over cheese and bread layers. Top with remaining cheese and bread slices.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients, beat well. Pour egg mixture over layered ingredients in baking dish.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours or overnight.
  • Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 - 50 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.

2 (10 ounce) packages frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
3/4 lb thinly sliced deli ham, cut into 1/2-inch strips
2 cups shredded swiss cheese
1 loaf French bread, cut in 1-inch slices
6 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups milk
3 tablespoons dried onion flakes
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1/2 teaspoon paprika

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, ham and cheese; spread half the mixture into a greased 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Arrange bread slices on top and cover with remaining ham//cheese/broccoli mixture. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, milk, onion flakes, mustard and hot pepper sauce. Pour over broccoli mixture. Sprinkle with paprika. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

This is a quick and easy one-dish meal that comes from the recipe collection of Bird's sister Kathy. Stratta or strata is a brunch casserole dish, similar to a quiche, made from a mixture which mainly consists of bread or hash browns, eggs and cheese. It may also include meat or vegetables.

12 slices white bread
1 cup cooked lean ham, diced
1 1/4 cups chopped broccoli
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
8 ounces neufchatel cheese, softened or 8 ounces cream cheese
3 eggs
1 cup 2% low-fat milk or 1 cup whole milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F Lightly grease a 9x13 casserole dish and place half the bread into the dish, overlapping if necessary.
  • Layer with ham, broccoli, then 1 cup of the cheddar cheese. Place remaining bread slices over top.
  • In a bowl, mix well the cream cheese, eggs, and milk. pour over strada and sprinkle with remaining cheddar cheese. Bake for 40-45 minutes.

  • In a large pan melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and broccoli and cook them together for about 5 minutes, or just until they soften. Season the vegetables with 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Remove the pan from the heat and set it aside.
  • In a small bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, and half and half. Season the mixture with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. Spread 1/3 of the bread cubes on the bottom of the dish. Top the bread crumbs with 1/3 of the cheeses, broccoli and onions, and ham. Repeat this layering two more times, ending with the remaining cheese sprinkled over the top of the dish. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top. Cover the dish and refrigerate it overnight.
  • Remove it from the fridge and let it sit on the counter for at least 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake it uncovered for 50-60 minutes. It’s done when a toothpick comes out clean when you test the center. Let the strata stand for about 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
