Halloween Spider Cupcakes image

1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 egg
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup black sanding sugar
18 red miniature candy-coated chocolate candies

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Place paper baking cup in each of 18 regular-size muffin cups. In large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt. In medium bowl, mix buttermilk, oil, 1 teaspoon of the vanilla and the egg with whisk until blended. Add oil mixture to flour mixture, stirring just until blended. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups.
  • Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pans to cooling rack. Cool completely.
  • In large bowl, beat butter, 1 cup of the powdered sugar and remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Gradually add remaining powdered sugar, beating until blended. Frost cupcakes. For each cupcake, place small spider-shaped stencil or template on frosting; sprinkle black sanding sugar over stencil to cover the image. Carefully remove stencil. Place red candy in center of spider.

Cupcakes
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter softened
2 large Land O Lakes® Eggs
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Frosting
3 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter softened
3 to 4 tablespoons milk
Glaze
1 cup real semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 teaspoons shortening

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Place paper baking cups into 24 muffin pan cups; set aside.
  • Combine sugar and 1/4 cup butter in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Add eggs; continue beating until creamy. Add sour cream, milk and vanilla. Continue beating until well mixed. Add all remaining cupcake ingredients; beat at low speed until well mixed.
  • Fill prepared muffin cups with about 2 tablespoons batter. Bake 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
  • Combine powdered sugar and 1/4 cup butter in bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often and gradually adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency.
  • Melt chocolate chips and shortening in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, 3-4 minutes or until smooth. Place melted chocolate in small heavy-duty resealable plastic food bag; snip tip from one corner to make very small hole.
  • Frost 6 cupcakes, using about 1 tablespoon frosting for each cupcake. Immediately pipe 3 concentric circles of melted chocolate onto each frosted cupcake. Starting at center, draw toothpick 5 or 6 times through chocolate circles to outside edge of frosting to make spider web design. Repeat with remaining cupcakes and frosting. Let stand until chocolate is firm.

Easy Halloween Spider Cupcakes With Oreo Cookies Recipe image

This spider cupcakes recipe made with Oreo cookies and frosting is so simple that anyone can make them turn out. Even the kids can do it!

1 package cake mix (any flavor and brand)
1¼ cups water (or whatever your cake mix calls for)
1/3 cup vegetable oil (or whatever your cake mix calls for)
3 eggs (or whatever your cake mix calls for)
3 cups store-bought buttercream frosting
24 Oreo cookies
1 tube black decorator icing
48 small candy eyeballs

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Line the muffin tins with cupcake liners.
  • Add all of the ingredients for the cupcakes to a mixing bowl and mix.
  • Divide the mix evenly between 24 cupcake liners.
  • Bake for 15 to 18 mins until a toothpick comes out clean or the top bounces back when pressed with your finger.
  • Allow cupcakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes.
  • Then remove them from the tins and let them finish cooling on a wire rack.
  • Fit a piping bag or ziploc bag with a 1M or 2D piping tip.
  • Add frosting to the bag.
  • Pipe a circle around the top of each cupcake with the buttercream frosting.
  • Place an Oreo in the middle of the cupcake on top of the icing.
  • With the black decorators icing, pipe "legs" going from the oreo cookie down the sides of the cupcake.
  • Add a small dab of icing on the backs of the eyeball candies and stick them to the top of the oreo cookies.
