CHICKEN GUMBO SLOPPY JOES

Chicken Gumbo Sloppy Joes are an easy weeknight dinner recipe using lean ground beef and Campbell's chicken gumbo soup.

1 lb lean ground beef
1 cup diced yellow onions
10.5 oz Campbell's condensed chicken gumbo soup
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tbsp ketchup
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tbsp onion powder
4 large Brioche buns (or 6 regular hamburger buns)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400F for toasting the buns.
  • Dump the ground beef into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add the diced onions to the pan with the ground beef.
  • Crumble the ground beef well as it cooks.
  • Once the ground beef is fully cooked, drain the grease from the pan and reduce the heat to medium.
  • Add the chicken gumbo soup, yellow mustard, ketchup, salt, pepper and onion powder to the pan.
  • Stir all of the ingredients together well.
  • Leave the mixture to simmer until the liquid in the pan thickens. About 4 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low.
  • Place the buns in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven and toast the buns until they are lightly browned. 4-6 minutes.
  • Scoop the sloppy joe mixture onto the toasted buns.
  • Serve and enjoy!

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed chicken gumbo soup
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 ¼ cups water
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • In large skillet over medium heat, brown meat. Drain any grease from pan.
  • Stir in soup, ketchup, yellow mustard, water, salt and pepper. Turn heat to medium-low; simmer uncovered for about 1 hour until liquid is absorbed and mixture is thickened.

2 ½ pounds ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
¼ green bell pepper, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed chicken gumbo soup
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 tablespoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons lemon juice
1 ½ tablespoons yellow mustard
½ cup ketchup
½ cup barbecue sauce
6 tablespoons white vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
½ teaspoon dried parsley
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a large heavy skillet, cook ground beef until evenly brown; drain well.
  • In a slow cooker, combine onion, bell pepper, celery, condensed gumbo soup, tomato paste and brown sugar. Stir in lemon juice, mustard, ketchup, barbeque sauce and vinegar. season with Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, parsley, black pepper and salt. Stir in browned beef.
  • Cover, and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, stirring occasionally. Skim off excess fat.

1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed chicken gumbo soup, undiluted
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
12 sandwich rolls, split

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef, onion and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the soup, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, horseradish, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Discard bay leaf. Spoon onto rolls.

My grandma made it for my mom, my mom made it for me and now I make it for my husband and son. It's the only way I know how to make it and it's the only kind I've ever tasted. We love it and it's supposedly not like traditional sloppy joes. It's easy, quick and requires very few ingredients.

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 onion
2 (10 ounce) cans chicken gumbo soup
1/3 cup catsup
1 teaspoon salt
8 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • In skillet, cook chopped onion until soft.
  • Add ground beef, crumbling and breaking it up while cooking it.
  • When meat is brown, remove from heat and drain fat.
  • Place back on stove and add two cans of chicken gumbo soup. Stir together until it begins to bubble.
  • Stir in catsup.
  • Simmer for a few minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Ready to serve on hamburger buns.
