Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes image

All the taste of the famous sandwich but made easy using ground beef and an optional homemade provolone cheese sauce. In a pinch, you can use sliced provolone cheese or cheez whiz instead.

Provided by MSippigirl

Categories     Meat

Time 30m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
3 tablespoons steak sauce, I like A-1
1/2 cup beef broth
salt and black pepper, to taste
1 dash Worcestershire sauce (optional)
4 large hamburger buns
1 tablespoon butter, for toasting buns
provolone cheese (sliced) or Cheez Whiz
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 cup milk
1 cup provolone cheese (shredded)

Steps:

  • Add the oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook 5-6 minutes or until no longer pink. Add the onion and bell pepper and continue to cook 2-3 minutes or until crisp tender. Drain off any fat. Stir in the steak sauce and beef broth (and Worcestershire, if using). Season with salt and pepper. Cook until liquid is gone.
  • Butter the cut sides of the buns. Toast the buttered sides in a hot skillet on medium-high heat. Set aside.
  • To make the cheese sauce, melt the butter in a 1-quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Whisk in the flour and cook about 1 minute. Whisk in milk, bring up to a bubble and cook until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the cheese. Season with salt and pepper, if desired.
  • To serve, place a scoop of the meat mixture onto the bottom half of the buns. Top with cheese sauce (or cheese) and cover with the top half of the bun.

GROUND BEEF PHILLY CHEESESTEAK SANDWICHES

Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches image

Easy dinner idea that doesn't take long to make and makes for great leftovers later.

Provided by Thriving Home

Categories     Main Dish

Time 30m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 12

1-2 tablespoons olive or avocado oil
1/2 green bell pepper, diced (or more, if you'd like)
1 small yellow onion, diced
1/2 cup diced portobello mushrooms (or more, if you'd like)
2 garlic cloves, minced
Salt and pepper
1 pound lean ground beef (Here's where we get our grass-fed beef.)
A pinch of red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
6 tablespoons softened butter
12 slices Provolone cheese
12 slices sourdough bread

Steps:

  • Make the Filling: In a large saute pan, heat oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Saute bell peppers, onions and mushrooms until they begin to soften, about 4-5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook about 30-60 more seconds. Season the veggies lightly with salt and pepper and then remove to a medium-sized bowl (you'll use this later for the meat, so make sure it's at least medium-sized).
  • Add the ground beef to the same saute pan and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon or spatula along the way, until there is no longer any pink showing. While it cooks, season the meat with 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Drain any excess grease.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and the cooked veggies until everything is combined. (Freezing instructions begin here.) Remove the meat mixture to the bowl the veggies were in earlier. Wipe out the pan until clean.
  • Build the Sandwiches: Lay the bread slices on a cutting board and butter one side of each piece of bread. Then lay them butter side down. On the inside of one piece of bread, place a slice of cheese, scoop about 1/3 cup of the beef mixture on top of that, top with another slice of cheese, and place another piece of bread on top (butter side up).
  • Grill the Sandwiches: Place the saute pan over medium-low heat. Grill each sandwich for 2-3 minutes per side, until the outside is browned and cheese is melted.

GROUND PHILLY CHEESESTEAK GRILLED CHEESE

Ground Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese image

Ground Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese made with bell peppers, onions and American or Provolone Cheese. All the flavor of a cheese steak for half the price.

Provided by Sabrina Snyder

Categories     Sandwich

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound ground beef
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons butter
1 onion (, chopped)
1/2 green bell pepper (, chopped)
salt and pepper to taste
8 slices American or Provolone Cheese
8 slices white bread
4 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Start by browning the beef in the skillet. Try to brown without breaking up the meat too much. Get a nice brown sear on the beef, then break apart as little as possible. You want the meat to resemble a pea in size [you want to avoid taco meat consistency]. Add the salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Stir gently, then remove from pan.
  • Add 2 tbsp. of butter in the pan and add the chopped onions and green bell pepper, cooking until browned and caramelized. Add salt and pepper to taste. If you like mushrooms in your cheesesteaks, go ahead and add some chopped mushrooms here too. Once browned, add the meat back in and combine together.
  • Spread the butter on one side of each of the 8 slices of bread.
  • Butter side down on the cutting board.
  • Add a slice of provolone to each of the slices.
  • Top four slices with the meat mixture and close the sandwiches pressing down lightly.
  • In a cast iron pan or griddle on medium high add the sandwiches and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side.

GROUND BEEF PHILLY CHEESESTEAK GRILLED CHEESE

Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese image

Grilled Cheese meets Philly Cheesesteak in this ultimate sandwich hybrid recipe.

Provided by Meaghan @ 4 Sons R Us

Categories     Sandwich

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb ground beef
salt & pepper (to taste)
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp butter
1 white onion (diced or thinly sliced)
1/2 green bell pepper (chopped)
8 slices of Provolone Cheese
8 slices of your favorite white bread (sourdough will also work)
4 tbsp butter

Steps:

  • Add the ground beef to a hot medium to large-sized skillet over medium heat. Let the meat cook for a minute or two, developing a nice sear. Flip the chunk of meat, repeating to sear the other side. Once both sides are seared use a spatula to break the meat up as much as possible. Drain the meat and return to the skillet.
  • Add in the salt, pepper, and Worcestershire, stirring occasionally and cooking until fully browned. Remove the meat from the pan, and set it aside.
  • Add the 2 tablespoons of butter to the same pan and melt. Add in the pepper and onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions have caramelized. Remove the pan from heat, stir in the cooked ground beef until everything's evenly incorporated, and set the mixture aside.
  • Butter the outsides of all the slices of bread.
  • Flip four slices of buttered bread over onto a clean work space. Add a slice of cheese to the un-buttered side. Top that with a quarter of the meat mixture. Top the meat mixture with another slice of provolone. Finish it off with the un-buttered side of one of the other pieces of bread. Press the top slice of bread down gently to 'seal'. Repeat until all four sandwiches are assembled.
  • Heat a clean skillet or griddle to medium heat. Add one sandwich to the pan and cook until browned and the cheese on that side has melted, about 3-4 minutes. Use two spatulas to 'hold' the sandwich, and flip it cooking the other side until browned as well.
  • Repeat until all the sandwiches are done.
