This is a satisfying sandwich that is quick to make and fills you up. Although the ingredients are not necessarily 'figure friendly' they are a good way to get your kids to get their protein, and fruits all in one meal item. You can substitute your favorite types of bread, meat and cheese.

4 slices ham, chopped
1 small apple - peeled, cored and finely chopped
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
2 slices Cheddar cheese
4 slices bread
2 tablespoons butter
2 eggs
4 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Mix ham and apple with mayonnaise in a small bowl. Spread onto two slices of bread. Top each one with a slice of cheese and a second slice of bread.
  • Melt butter over medium heat in a large skillet. Whisk together eggs and milk in a small bowl. Quickly dip both sides of the sandwich into the egg mixture. Fry sandwiches in pan for 1 to 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Watch carefully. You want the sandwiches to be golden in color and the egg to be cooked.

4 thick slices smoked Gouda
4 to 6 slices country smoked ham
1/4 apple, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Heat one tablespoon butter in pan on medium-low heat. Add one slice of bread to the pan and top with two slices of the cheese, all of the ham and apples and then top with the additional cheese and the other slice of bread. After about three or four minutes, pick the sandwich up with a spatula and melt the remaining one tablespoon of butter. Flip the sandwich over to grill the other side. Check after about three or four minutes to make sure it's not over-browning. Flip again and cover with a large lid until the cheese is melted and the sandwich is warm throughout, about two more minutes.

8 slices sourdough bread
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
3 tablespoons finely shredded Manchego or Parmesan cheese
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 cup shredded sharp white cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
4 ounces Brie cheese with rind removed, sliced
12 slices deli ham
1 tart apple, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Spread 3 tablespoons butter on 1 side of bread slices. Toast bread, butter side down, in a large skillet or electric griddle over medium-low heat until golden brown, 2-3 minutes; remove. In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, Manchego cheese, onion powder and remaining 3 tablespoons butter. 6 slices firm, thinly sliced close-textured bread, such as Pepperidge Farm
3 tablespoons sweet butter, softened
3 thin slices honey-cured ham
1/4 pound sliced Gruyere cheese, white cheddar, or Swiss

Steps:

  • To assemble the sandwiches, butter both sides of each bread slice. Lay ham and cheese on one slice and cover with the another slice. Trim the crusts off the sides.
  • Heat a saute pan over medium-low heat, then fry the sandwiches until the cheese starts to melt and the sandwiches are golden brown, about 3 minutes on each side. You may need to add more butter to the pan.
  • Remove the sandwiches to paper towels to drain, let them cool for 1 minute, then cut into quarters diagonally and serve 3 quarters each per serving.

This is another one of my creations. I love grilled cheese sandwichs and Im always trying to make new versions! I reallllllly liked this one! Please only use a tart apple like a granny smith; sweet apples may produce an undesireable result. I really loved this sandwich!!!

1 tart granny smith apple (do not use a sweet apple)
1 shallot
1 clove garlic
1/2 tablespoon butter
1 slice deli cheddar cheese
1 slice deli American cheese
2 slices of fresh Italian bread, thin
butter, to coat bread slices
salt

Steps:

  • First core your apple, and cut it in half.
  • Slice very thin slices from the end of one half, until you have enough to cover your bread (not overlapping. Now take your shallot, and shave paper thin slices, about 4 or 5- reserve rest of shallot for another use. Then take your garlic clove, and shave paper thin slices of garlic from the clove, about 4 or 5 slices, reserve rest of garlic for ).
  • Heat 1/2 tablespoon butter and lightly fry the apple, shallot and garlic. Fry for about 2 minutes and then remove to a plate.
  • Take one slice of bread, butter one side, and then salt it and place it in the pan, and continue by placing 1 slice of cheese on the bread, layer the apple slices evenly over the piece of bread and randomly place the garlic and shallot pieces, place other piece of cheese on top, and then take second piece of bread, butter and salt one side, and place it on top of the cheese slice, butter side up.
  • Fry the sandwich over medium heat until browned on both sides, pressing down on the sandwich whiling cooking to slightly flatten it out; When browned nicely, cut in half and serve.
