GRENADINE LIQUEUR OR POMEGRANATE LIQUEUR #1
Entered for safekeeping, as I couldn't find it at my local liqueur store. Found posted by Vester Lynd on eGullet forum: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php/topic/70880-making-your-own-grenadine/. Basically it is a Pomegranate simple syrup with a little vodka and 2 "secret" background flavors. If you can only find Middle East orange flower water, use only 1-2 drops. Supposedly the alcohol extends the shelf life indefinitely; if you discover mold, throw it out. A "serving" is 1 oz.

Steps:
- Heat pomegranate juice over low heat and add sugar. Stir to dissolve and remove from heat.
- As it cools, add the vodka or Everclear grain alcohol, orange flower water, and vanilla. Bottle and store.

This rich, tawny syrup will elevate your cocktails from 'pretty in pink' to 'pretty spectacular'. Shop around for pomegranate juice! There are a few options for 100% unsweetened juices, and I haven't had bad results at any price point.

Steps:
- Combine 3 cups pomegranate juice and sugar together in a saucepan; heat to 244 degrees F (118 degrees C) or until a small amount of mixture dropped into cold water forms a firm ball. Remove saucepan from heat and cover with a lid; let cool until pan is cool enough to touch. Stir remaining 1 cup pomegranate juice into mixture. Refrigerate.
