MY GRANDMOTHERS FAMOUS SPAGHETTI SAUCE

My Grandmothers Famous Spaghetti Sauce image

This has been passed down from my grandmother to my mother, to me, and now to my children and their families. I never measure ingredients so I will do my best to give you ingredient proportions. Don't rush this one. Let it simmer and cook down for several hours. I use my food processor to do the chopping as there is a lot of it!Freezes great so I double, and sometimes triple, the recipe.

Time P4DT20m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 lbs lean ground beef
3 tablespoons olive oil, divided use
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 cup celery, finely chopped
3 onions, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco sauce, several shakes
oregano, to taste
basil, to taste
salt & freshly ground black pepper, to taste
water, to make really soupy (it will cook down)

Steps:

  • Brown meat in 1 tablespoon olive oil. Drain well. (I rinse my meat after browning to get as much grease off as possible.).
  • Chop celery, bell pepper, onions and garlic in food processor or by hand.
  • Add remaining olive oil and saute vegetables until tender over medium-high heat. Return meat to the pan.
  • Add remaining ingredients and add enough water to make really watery or soupy. It will cook down. Add water as needed. Simmer about 4 to 6 hours until cooks down to proper consistency for sauce.

GRANDMA'S ITALIAN SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Grandma's Italian Spaghetti Sauce image

This is my grandmother's recipe from Italy. It is wonderful. I have gotten rid of all other sauce recipes because this one is so good. It is also wonderful over rice and by itself. I love it because it tastes too good and is very filling so it lasts more than 2 meals.

This is my great grandma's spaghetti sauce recipe. My mom made this growing up and I could sit and eat it by the spoonful. With a nice chunk of garlic bread. This is my absolute favorite spaghetti sauce of all time. Additional veggies can be added. This recipe also freezes very well.

MIKE'S ITALIAN GRANDMA'S PASTA SAUCE

Mike's Italian Grandma's Pasta Sauce image

My husband learned this from a sweet Italian Grandma from Palermo while they were on a train together in Germany. She had married a German soldier during the war, and now that he had passed she was bringing him to his family for the first time since he had left as a young soldier. Note: Cooking time only includes prep time as simmering varies according to method.

Categories     Sauces

Time 15m

Yield 8-10 1 cup servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

64 ounces tomato sauce, plain or pre-seasoned
4 teaspoons oregano
1 tablespoon minced garlic or 6 garlic cloves
1 lb Italian sausage, browned
1 lb ground beef, browned
1 cup red wine
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Brown your meat and drain off the excess fat. Add all the ingredients together. My hubby likes to put this all in the crock pot and slowcook it for about 6 hours. You could also simmer it stovetop for maybe an hour or so if you're in a hurry. Delicious. We serve this with tortellini or spaghetti and our pickiest kids can't get enough. They also request bread to sop up the extra.
  • Note: Of course you can used canned tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato puree or even fresh. Just cook longer and add a pinch of sugar.

GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Grandma's Homemade Spaghetti Sauce image

I got this recipe from my Grandmother. It's a basic tomato sauce that can have many things added to it to be more elaborate. Try it and let me know what you've done to make it your own!!! PS I've found that the best canned tomato products are Target's brand, I highly recommend using them!

Provided by Samantha Price

Categories     Other Sauces

Time 4h30m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 can(s) crushed tomatos (recommend target brand)
1 can(s) tomato puree (recommend target brand)
1 can(s) water
2 can(s) small cans of tomato paste (recommend target brand)
2 Tbsp oregano, dried
1 Tbsp parsley, italian
3 Tbsp garlic powder
1 sprig(s) bay leaf
1 medium onion, whole (skin removed, top and bottom sliced flat)
1 Tbsp basil, dried
1 dash(es) ginger
3 clove garlic
1 dash(es) extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • 1. Pour the cans of crushed tomatoes, tomato puree and tomato paste into a large stockpot. Fill up the empty puree can with water and add to stockpot.
  • 2. Cut ends of onion & peel. Put in stockpot whole.
  • 3. Put stockpot on stove & turn on high. You will want the sauce to just begin boiling and then you can turn it down to low.
  • 4. Add rest of ingredients while sauce is heating up. Stir well once everything is added.
  • 5. Sauce will thicken as you cook it. The longer you cook it, the thicker it will get.
  • 6. I will often divide the sauce up into freezer bags or stackable tupperware and put into the freezer for easy dinners at a later date.
  • 7. I recommend adjusting the herbs to your own taste. This does not taste anything like a canned sauce! However, it is very healthy! Add meat, more garlic, veggies, cheese, cream, etc for each specific meal. Let me know what you've tried and what you think of the sauce!! Thank you!
