GRANNY'S SWEET-AND-TART APPLE CRISP
A sweet and tart dessert that disappears at every dining table. It is a fun twist on apple cobbler! Goes great with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping! Wonderful hot or cold.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Spread diced apples into the bottom of a 9-inch square baking dish.
- Stir brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a bowl. Mash softened butter into the sugar mixture with a fork until you get a crumbly consistency; spread over apples to cover.
- Bake in preheated oven until the apples are tender, about 30 minutes.

I have made this recipe since I was 9. I like to use Granny Simth apples because they are more tart.

Steps:
- Preheat oven at 350 degrees C.
- To prepare crisp, place oats, flour, cinnamon, sugar, and butter in mixing bowl.
- Mix (I like using my hands) together until crumbly.
- Peel, core, and slice apples.
- Place slices in sqaure baking pan.
- I like to add a bit more cinnamon to the apples (1/2 tsp).
- Spread crumble over apples evenly and press down gently but firmly.
- Bake in oven until apples are tender.
- Approximately 45 minutes.
- Serve topped with ice cream, whipped cream, or cereal cream.

- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 C) with a rack in the center position. Set aside a half sheet pan.
- Prepare the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples, brown sugar, apple cider, lemon zest, lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and salt. Toss until well combined. Set aside while you prepare the topping.
- Prepare the Topping: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the all purpose flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and salt. Add the cubed butter and toss until coated. Using your fingertips, work and press the butter into the dry ingredients, until the butter is dispersed and there are a good mixture of smaller and larger crumbs. Stir in the chopped hazelnuts.
- Assemble: Transfer the apple mixture (and any juices) to a 2-quart capacity baking dish (or alternatively, an 8-inch square baking pan) and spread into an even layer. Sprinkle the crisp topping over the apples into an even layer (do not press down). Set the baking dish in the center of the half sheet pan.

- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Position the oven rack in center of oven. Lightly spray or grease an 8x8x2-inch square baking dish.
- Core apples, and peel and slice them. Place the apples in a medium mixing bowl with the cinnamon and nutmeg and toss to coat.
