Old-Fashioned Boiled Raisin Cake with Brown Sugar Frosting image

Old-Fashioned Boiled Raisin Cake is topped with a delicious homemade brown sugar frosting.

2 cups water
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups raisins
1 cup butter
3 Tablespoons cocoa powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
3 Tablespoons milk
2 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a medium saucepan, mix together water, brown sugar, raisins, butter, and cocoa. Bring to a boil, and let simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and let cool.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and ground cloves.
  • Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and stir until completely incorporated.
  • Pour into a 13x9 inch glass dish or cake pan that has been generously sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Bake for 35 minutes of until a toothpick comes out clean from the center of the cake.
  • While cooling, prepare the Brown Sugar Frosting.
  • In a medium sized saucepan, mix brown sugar, butter and milk. Heat until the sugar is dissolved, whisking constantly. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • Once the sugar mixture is cooled, pour sugar mixture into a mixer bowl. Add powdered sugar and mix until a frosting is formed. If a runnier texture is desired, add milk 1 T. at a time until desired consistency.
  • Frost the cake, and enjoy!

6 Eggs
3 Sticks Butter (Room Temperature)
1 ½ Tbsp. Lemon Extract
1 Tbsp. Vanilla Extract
3 ½ Cups Flour
1 ½ Tsp. Baking Powder
1 Cup Milk
15 oz Raisins (Sun Maid)
1 Tsp. Salt
3 Cups Sugar

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees
  • Grease the bundt pan well. Be sure to get the bottom, center and sides of the pan.
  • In small bowl mix milk and baking powder.
  • In large bowl cream butter and then add eggs in one at a time.
  • Next, mix in lemon, vanilla, flour, sugar, salt. Mix well.
  • Now add the milk mixture into the batter. Mix well.
  • Now by hand, fold in the raisins slowly. Be sure the raisins are not in clumps.
  • Dump batter into greased pan evenly.
  • Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 20 min.
  • Then turn off oven and open it slightly. Leave cake in oven for another 10 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes.
  • Flip onto a cooling rack or plate and allow to cool fully before serving.

1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 cups peeled and chopped apple
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup raisins

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a fluted tube pan (such as Bundt®).
  • Sift flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together in a bowl. Set aside.
  • Mix sugar, egg, and oil together in another bowl. Stir in the flour mixture just until combined; fold in apple, walnuts, and raisins.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean, about 1 hour.

1 large navel orange, cut into 8 wedges
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup pecans
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup buttermilk
GLAZE:
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons orange juice

Steps:

  • In a food processor, combine the orange, raisins and pecans. Cover and process until mixture is finely chopped; set aside. , In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla until well blended. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition. Stir in orange mixture. , Pour into a greased and floured 10-in. flouted tube pan. Bake at 325° for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Steps:

1 cup hot water
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 large egg
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1-1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Confectioners' sugar, optional

Steps:

  • Place raisins and hot water in a small bowl; set aside. , In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce and water. I got this recipe from my mom, who got it from her mom. These are the best raisin cookies I have ever had. They stay very soft! Most people look skeptical of raisin cookies until they try these, and then they ask for the recipe.

2 cups raisins
1 cup water
1 cup margarine
2 cups white sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Bring water to boil in small pot, add raisans and boil 5 minutes. Cool. Do not drain water - it will be used in recipe.
  • Cream shortening and sugar.
  • Add eggs and beat well.
  • Add cooled raisans with any left over water, and vanilla.
  • Stir flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and allspice to wet ingredients.
  • Drop by teaspoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. This mixture is not meant to be really dry.
  • Bake 10 minutes.
