Super Duper Applesauce (Grandma's Secret Revealed) image

For years my grandma made this sauce. It is amazingly delicious, do try it.

3 apples, cored and chopped
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons honey

Steps:

  • Place 1 apple in a bowl. Cover with water. Let soak until soft, 8 hours to overnight. Drain, reserving soaking water.
  • Transfer soaked apple to a large pot. Mix in lemon juice and honey. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until consistency is very soft, about 15 minutes. Add remaining 2 apples to the pot. Continue simmering, adding some of the soaking water, until applesauce reaches desired consistency, 15 to 45 minutes.

3/4 cup raisins
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 large egg
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon each ground cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg
1-1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Confectioners' sugar, optional

Steps:

  • Place raisins and hot water in a small bowl; set aside. , In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce and water. Drain raisins; fold into batter with the walnuts. , Transfer to a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake at 300° for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Place pan on a wire rack. Dust with confectioners' sugar if desired. Serve warm or cold.

1 cup Flour
1/4 tablespoons Baking Powder
1 cup Apple Sauce
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon and cloves
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
2 cups Raisins
1 cup Walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven 350
  • Combine butter, sugar and eggs. Mix well. Add apple sauce and mix well
  • Combine all dry ingredients. Mix into wet ingredients until smooth
  • Add raisins and walnuts.
  • Spray loaf pan and bake for 45 to 60 min. Let cool in pan before removing.

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts
Powdered sugar, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, cream the butter. Add the brown sugar and continue mixing. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, and vanilla, then mix until well blended and fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the dry ingredients. Add to the creamed mixture alternately with the applesauce. Fold in the raisins and walnuts. Pour batter into a greased and floured loaf or tube pan and bake until firm to the touch, about 40 to 45 minutes. Let cool in the pan, then turn it out, and dust with powdered sugar.

1 ½ cups applesauce
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ cup boiling water
½ cup confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Place raisins and hot water in a small bowl; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients except last three. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water; add to batter. Mix well. Drain softened raisins and fold into batter. Pour into a greased and floured 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Bake at 300 degrees F for 40 minutes. If desired, dust top with confectioners' sugar. Serve warm or cold. Store in an airtight container.
