GRANDMA'S FRUIT SALAD



Grandma's Fruit Salad image

"I can't believe how easy this pretty salad is to make," says Carolyn Tomatz of Jackson, Wisconsin. The colorful blend of bananas, pineapple, pears and peaches and grapes is tossed with a creamy pudding sauce. "People of all ages enjoy this dish," Carolyn notes.

Yield 12 servings, 1/2 cup per serving.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 can (20 ounces) unsweetened pineapple chunks
1 can (15 ounces) reduced-sugar sliced pears, drained
1 can (15 ounces) sliced peaches in juice, drained
1-1/2 cups seedless red grapes
1 package (3 ounces) cook-and-serve vanilla pudding mix
2 medium firm bananas
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 jar (10 ounces) maraschino cherries, well drained

Steps:

  • Drain pineapple, reserving juice in a 1-cup measuring cup. In a large bowl, combine the pineapple, pears, peaches and grapes. Cover and refrigerate. , Add enough water to pineapple juice to measure 1 cup. Pour into a small saucepan. Whisk in pudding mix. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; set aside to cool to room temperature., Slice bananas into a small bowl. Drizzle with lemon juice; gently toss to coast. Let stand for 5 minutes; drain. Add bananas and cherries to chilled fruit. Add cooled pudding; toss gently to combine. Refrigerate until serving. Refrigerate leftovers.

1/2 honeydew melon, cut into chunks
1/2 cantaloupe, cut into chunks
454 gm. package strawberries, sliced
170 gm. package blueberries
1 single orange popsicle
1 Tbsp. Grand Marnier
Mint for garnish, optional

Steps:

  • Melt popsicle in the microwave and let cool. Stir in Grand Marnier.
  • Mix fruit together and dress with the popsicle mixture.
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate for no longer than 1 hour.
  • Garnish with mint.

As with any fruit salad, this salad is best with seasonal fruits. Use your favorite combination of fruits. As an alternative, you could use orange juice instead of the Grand Marnier, but it is worth the splurge.

2 cups green grapes, halved
2 cups strawberries, sliced
2 cups plums, sliced
1 cup peaches, sliced
1 cup orange segments
1 cup kiwi, sliced
1/2 cup Grand Marnier
1/2 cup orange juice

Steps:

  • Combine all. Cover and refrigerate up to 8 hours.

8 tablespoons sugar
10 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup Grand Marnier
6 cups Fruit Salad, see below
Fresh mint leaves for garnish
6 cups assorted sliced fruit
4 tablespoons granulated sugar
5 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
4 tablespoons Grand Marnier
Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Steps:

  • Place the sugar, lemon juice, and Grand Marnier in a mixing bowl. Whisk until well blended. Let sit for 15 minutes. Divide the fruit salad among 6 wide, shallow soup bowls. Ladle the Grand Marnier mixture over the fruit, and serve immediately, garnished with the mint leaves.
  • Place the fruit in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle with the sugar, and toss lightly. Add the lemon juice and Grand Marnier, and toss again. Let sit for 10 to 30 minutes, either on a counter (if you like a warmer salad) or in the refrigerator (if you like a colder salad). Divide among 6 dinner plates. Garnish with mint leaves, and serve.

6 ounces blackberries (rinsed and drained)
6 ounces raspberries (rinsed and drained)
1 pint blueberries (rinsed and drained)
1 quart strawberries (rinsed, drained and sliced)
2 tablespoons fresh chopped mint (or more)
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon honey
1 splash Grand Marnier liqueur (about 1 1/2 teaspoons)
Optional: mint sprig and lime wedge for garnish

Steps:

  • Place all rinsed and drained berries and chopped mint in a serving bowl.
  • Separately, whisk together fresh lime juice, honey and Grand Marnier liqueur.
  • Pour evenly over fruit and stir gently to coat.
  • Garnish with mint sprig and lime wedge if desired.
  • Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate.

This perfectly sweet fruit salad with a zingy honey-lime dressing is a must make side dish for every occasion.

3 tbsp honey
2 tbsp lime juice
1 tsp lime zest
1 pound strawberries
2 cups grapes
6 kiwis
1 pint blackberries
1 pint raspberries
1 cup pineapple
1 cup mandarin orange slices

Steps:

  • Zest the lime into a bowl then squeeze in about two tablespoons of lime juice. Drizzle in t tablespoons of honey and whisk together until combined. I like to add 1/2 tablespoons of Grand Marnier or Cointreau to the dressing but this is optional.
  • Cut the strawberries, kiwis, and pineapple pieces. Halve the grapes, and wash and dry the black berries and raspberries. Add all the fruit to a large bowl and drizzle with the honey lime dressing then toss gently.
  • Cover the fruit salad and refrigerate. You can serve Immediately but the salad is excellent chilled and actually comes together after an hour or two as the strawberries release their juice.
