SWEET CINNAMON BISCUITS

This is a wonderful treat for the kids on a winter morning when you want cinnamon rolls but don't want to take the time to make them with yeast dough. Very tasty and tender. I didn't try them with the milk but I sure like them plain. I got this recipe from Grandma's Kitchen treasured desserts cards. I hope you like them as much as my family does.

2 cups sifted flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup milk, optional

Steps:

  • Combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a medium bowl and mix well.
  • Stir in vegetable oil.
  • Add buttermilk and stir until just blended.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth.
  • roll dough into a 15x8" rectangle.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Grease a 9" round baking pan lightly.
  • Spread butter over the dough.
  • Combine sugar and cinnamon in small bowl and mix well.
  • Sprinkle over butter.
  • Roll up rectangle, jelly roll fashion, starting from one long side.
  • Pinch seam to seal.
  • Cut the roll into 1 1/2 inch slices.
  • Arrange the slices, cut side up in prepared baking pan.
  • Bake until lightly browned, about 15-20 min.
  • Remove from oven.
  • Pour milk over the top if desired.
  • Serve hot.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup cold butter
1 cup milk
Melted butter
Cinnamon-sugar

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine dry ingredients; cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in milk just until moistened. Drop by 1/4 cupfuls onto a greased baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar. Bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm.

8 tablespoons (1 sitck) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon1 cup milk, optional

Steps:

  • 1 Combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a medium bowl and mix well. Stir in vegetable oil. Add buttermilk and stir just until blended. 2 Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Roll dough into a 15 x 8-inch rectangle. 3 Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 9-inch round baking pan lightly. 4 Spread butter over the dough. Combine granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and mix well. Sprinkle over butter. Roll up rectangle, jelly roll fashion, starting from one long side. Pinch seam to seal. 5 Cut the roll into 1 1⁄2-inch slices. Arrange the slices, cut side up, in prepared baking pan. Bake until lightly browned, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven. Pour milk over the top, if desired. Serve hot.

2 1/2 cups biquick baking mix
2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, melted
8 tablespoons brown sugar
cinnamon

Steps:

  • Combine Bisquick and milk and set aside.
  • In a cupcake pan, place 1 T. melted butter in eight cups.
  • Then place 1 T. brown sugar into each cup with butter.
  • Next sprinkle desired amount of cinnamon into each cup.
  • Stir each cup to mix thoroughly.
  • With a tablespoon, place enough biscuit mix into each cup to cover brown sugar mixture.
  • Place cupcake pan onto large cookie sheet to avoid dripping into oven.
  • Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
  • When done, place a cookie sheet over the cupcake pan and invert until biscuits drop onto cookie sheet.

When I make these biscuit type rolls, I always think of my Gram...she always made these for breakfast, when we spent the night with her. She would pour milk over top as soon as they came from the oven, and they were so good. My kids prefer plain or with glaze. Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Bake until lightly browned, or about 20 minutes. Remove from oven. Gram poured milk over the top of hers. I just leave mine plain or make a quick confectioners' sugar glaze. Serve hot and enjoy!
