Ham Balls image

Ham Balls With a Brown Sugar Glaze is a family favorite recipe that can be made with leftover ham.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lbs ham loaf mix
2 eggs slightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 cup soft bread crumbs
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tablespoon dry mustard
3/4 cup cider vinegar
3/4 cup hot water

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl soak bread in milk for about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in eggs.
  • Add meat and mix together.
  • Shape into balls and place in a greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
  • In a bowl mix together glaze ingredients.
  • Pour sauce over ham balls.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours.
  • Baste occasionally with sauce.

1 pound fully cooked ham, cubed
1 pound ground pork
1 cup 2% milk
1 cup crushed cornflakes
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
GLAZE:
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon ground mustard

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Pulse ham in batches in a food processor until finely ground. Combine with the next 7 ingredients just until mixed. Shape into 1-in. balls; place in a single layer on greased 15x10x1-in. baking pans., For glaze, cook and stir all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Spoon over ham balls. Bake until ham balls are just beginning to brown, 30-35 minutes, rotating pans and carefully stirring halfway through. Gently toss in glaze. Serve warm.

1 beaten egg
3/4 cup finely crushed graham cracker
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 lb ground cooked ham
1/2 lb ground pork
3/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl combine the first six ingredients.
  • Add ground ham and pork; mix well.
  • Shape into 12 balls, using about 1/3 cup mixture for each ball.
  • Place balls in baking dish. Bake, uncovered at 350° for 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, for glaze, in a small mixing bowl combine remaining ingredients and pour over ham balls. Bake 15 minutes more.
  • *Note: To make ahead, cover and chill uncooked ham balls for up to 12 hours. Prepare glaze, cover and chill up to 12 hours. Uncover and bake as directed. Ham balls and glaze can also be frozen separately.

1 cup milk
1-1/4 cups quick-cooking oats
2-1/2 pounds ground fully cooked ham
SAUCE:
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, optional
1-3/4 cups pineapple juice
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
4-1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk, oats and ham; mix well. Shape into 1-1/2-in. balls. Place in a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. , In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, cornstarch and cloves if desired. Stir in pineapple juice, corn syrup, vinegar and mustard until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Pour over ham balls. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until browned.

1/4 cup cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease baking pans.

  • Shape into 1 inch balls and place in a single layer on prepared baking pans.

1 cup Raisin Bran cereal (flakes)
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 egg

1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
1 tablespoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup corn syrup

Steps:

  • Mix the ground ham, ground pork, raisin bran, milk, egg, onion, salt, pepper and thyme together thoroughly.
  • Shape into 8-10 meatballs, using about 1/4 cup mixture for each.
  • Place balls in an 8x11x1 1/2-inch baking pan.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  • In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, syrup, vinegar and mustard; bring to boiling.
  • Pour over ham balls and bake 20 minutes more, basting with sauce once or twice during baking.
  • Makes 2-3 main course servings.
  • If making them as an appetizer, shape meat mixture into 1 to 1 1/2-inch (bite sized) balls, and adjust baking times accordingly.
