Glazed Cheese Danish Squares image

These glazed Danish squares are super quick and easy, great for potlucks. Best kept in fridge and served cold.

nonstick cooking spray
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
½ cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract in a large bowl; beat with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
  • Spread 1 can crescent roll dough onto the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Spread cream cheese mixture over top, and top with remaining can of crescent roll dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until lightly browned, about 30 minutes. Let cool to room temperature, at least 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, mix together powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze. Pour glaze on top of cooled Danishes and cut into squares.

A co-worker prepared this dessert for a party, and everyone requested the recipe. She said that she got it from the local Alabama Living magazine. I went home immediately and found my magazine. IT IS DELICIOUS!! And VERY EASY TO MAKE!

2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 egg white
1 tablespoon melted margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Spray 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray.
  • Unroll and place one package of crescent rolls in the pan.
  • Mix next five ingredients and spread on rolls.
  • Unroll and place second package of rolls on top.
  • Brush with egg white.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  • Let cool.
  • Mix glaze ingredients (add enough water or milk to make spreadable) and spread over cooled Danish.
  • ENJOY!

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg yolk
½ cup milk
10 apples - peeled, cored and thinly sliced
½ cup light brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 egg white

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C.)
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup and add enough milk to make 2/3 cup total liquid. Stir into flour mixture until all flour is damp. Divide the dough in half. On floured surface, roll half the dough into a rectangle and fit into a 9x13 inch pan.
  • In large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Put apple mixture in pan. Roll out remaining dough and place over apples. Seal edges and cut slits in top dough. Beat egg white till frothy and brush on crust.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until golden brown.

Add the egg yolk mix just until combined. Refrigerate the filling until ready to assemble the Danish. The filling can be made up to 2 days in advance.
  • Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut the dough into twelve 4" squares. Put a generous tablespoon of filling into the middle of each square. You should use all the filling between the 12 pastries.
