- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Stir eggs with sugar and vanilla. Add melted butter.
- Sift ground chocolate with flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir into egg mixture.
- Spread half the batter into a greased 8-inch square pan. Place chocolate squares in a single layer on top of batter. Cover the squares layer with the remaining batter.
- Bake 20 to 30 minutes. Cool before cutting into 16 to 20 squares.

- Preheat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, place Ghirardelli Caramel Turtle Brownie Mix, butter and egg. Using an electric mixer, mix on low speed 1 minute or until dough is formed. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls, 1-inch apart, onto an ungreased baking sheet. With thumb or handle of wooden spoon, press indentation into center of cookie dough and fill with caramel. Place 1 pecan half on top of caramel.

- Brownies: Preheat oven to 350ºF. Using a spoon, stir eggs with 3/4-cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla; add butter. Sift ground chocolate with flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir into egg mixture; add nuts. Stir in chips. Spread into greased 8" or 9" square pan. Bake 20 to 30 minutes. For extra chewy brownies, use 8" pan and less baking time. For cake-like brownies, use 9" pan and longer baking time. Cut into squares.
- Caramel Pecan Topping: Once brownie is baked and cooled, in a 3-quart saucepan, bring 3/4-cup sugar, corn syrup, water, and a pinch of salt to a boil until it turns a golden caramel. Remove pan from heat, and slowly add cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Quickly stir in pecans, and pour over brownie layer. Cool on rack. Chill brownies, covered, until caramel is firm (2 hours).

- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a 9×13 inch pan pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the finished brownies/caramel out of the pan as a whole. This makes cutting easier. I recommend parchment paper because the caramel won’t really stick to it.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and 2 ounces of chopped chocolate. Melt in 30 second increments, whisking after each, until completely smooth. Whisk in the sugar until completely combined, then whisk in the eggs and vanilla. The batter will be light brown and a little dull looking.
- Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, remaining 2 ounces of chopped chocolate, pecans, and chocolate chips. Fold it all together with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon. Batter will be very thick. Spread evenly into prepared pan.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then test the brownies with a toothpick. Insert it into the center of the pan. If it comes out with wet batter, the brownies are not done. If there are only a few moist crumbs, the brownies are done. Keep checking every 2 minutes until you have moist crumbs. My brownies take 31-32 minutes.
