German Chocolate Brownies are homemade fudgy brownies smothered with a decadent sweet, sticky coconut and pecan topping. Tastes just like cake, only better!

1/2 cup unsalted butter (, melted)
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup pecans (, chopped)
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/4 cup whole milk
2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
1 cup pecans (, chopped)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Spray an 8x8 inch baking pan with baking spray.
  • Whisk together melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  • Whisk in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Spread batter evenly into greased baking pan.
  • Sprinkle the 1 cup chopped pecans over the batter evenly.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Add butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and milk to a medium saucepan on medium heat and cook until just melted.
  • Stir well until smooth then mix in the coconut and pecans.
  • Spread over the brownies and bake an additional 6-8 minutes until bubbly.

1 cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter
4 (1 ounce) squares sweet baking chocolate (such as Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate®), broken into pieces
½ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs, beaten
½ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons corn syrup
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup flaked coconut
½ cup finely chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Butter an 8- or 9-inch square glass baking pan.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add chocolate and stir until melted. Remove from the heat and cool for 10 minutes or more.
  • Combine cooled chocolate mixture, sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Add eggs; mix well. Add flour mixture and stir until well combined. Spread batter into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, 20 to 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and set the oven to broil.
  • Combine brown sugar, melted butter, corn syrup, and milk for topping in a bowl. Stir in coconut and pecans. Drop and gently spread mixture evenly over the warm brownies.
  • Broil 4 inches from the heat until topping is bubbly, 1 to 2 minutes. Cool for 1 hour before slicing and serving.

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup oil ((vegetable or canola oil))
1/2 cup butter (, softened)
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup butter
2 egg yolks
1/3 cup evaporated milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13'' pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, pour oil over cocoa powder and mix. Add softened butter and mix until smooth. Add sugar and mix for 1 minute.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition. Add vanilla and mix. Add flour and salt and stir to combine.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • In a medium saucepan add brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, egg yolks, and evaporated milk. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a low boil over medium heat. Stir constantly for several minutes until the mixture begins to thicken.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, nuts and coconut. Allow to cool completely.
  • Once the brownies have cooled, cover the brownies with a layer of German chocolate frosting.

1 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs, beaten
1 container Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy coconut pecan frosting
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (6 oz)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. In 3-quart saucepan, melt 2 cups chocolate chips and the butter over low heat, stirring constantly; remove from heat. Stir in flour, sugar, vanilla, baking powder, salt and eggs. Spread batter in ungreased 13x9-inch pan.
  • Bake 27 to 34 minutes or until center is set. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
  • In medium bowl, mix frosting, 1 cup chocolate chips and the walnuts. Spread frosting mixture over brownies. For brownies, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows.
