GARLIC TEA

Garlic Tea image

In Mexico, or Spain for that matter, garlic tea is served up for coughs or colds. People swear by it! The garlic oils inhibit cough and cold microbes, and they are effective decongestants. Lemon juice reduces and thins mucus, which makes it easier to unclog a stuffed up respiratory system. Lemon juice also changes the body's pH, making it less hospitable to viruses and bacteria. GARLIC LEMONADE FOR COLDS, COUGH

Garlic Lemonade for Colds, Cough image

I got this off of Welltellme.com. Even if it doesn't help for colds, it tates pretty good! Drink it warm throughout the day. You don't wan't to kill the healing properties of the garlic, so if you have to reheat, put it in a mug and simmer it in a small pot of water. I added hte peppermint and I think it was a good choice.

GARLIC, LEMON, HONEY "TEA"

Garlic, Lemon, Honey

This cough-inhibiting concoction may help with easing of cold symptoms. Garlic inhibits cough and cold microbes and is an effective decongestant. Honey are considered by many to be a respiratory tonic, improving breathing, and is also known to be antimicrobial, assisting the immune system with fighting infection. Lemon reduces and thins mucus and alters the body's pH, which may make it less hospitable to viruses and bacteria. I make it every winter to prevent colds and because I think it tastes good. I adapted the recipe from one in Prevention magazine. To find it, you can Google the article title: This Tea Busts Colds!

  • Super-Strong Garlic Bread (or Vegetables) One of the simplest ways to eat lots of fresh garlic is to combine it with a butter or oil and then eat that on bread or a starchy vegetable.
  • Garlic Vinegar or Oxymel. Apple cider vinegar can preserve the fresh qualities of garlic and be a health tonic unto itself. I like this simple preparation at the onset of a cold or flu or to soothe a sore throat.
  • Garlic-Infused Oil (For Your Feet, Ears, and Chest) Using garlic oil on your feet or chest is a time-honored tradition for lessening the severity of an illness.
  • Garlic-Infused Honey. Honey is a tasty and powerful medicine all on its own. In fact, researchers have shown a spoonful of honey to be better at stopping a cough than standard over-the-counter medicines.10 When we add the wonders of honey with medicinal herbs, we have quite the pairing!
  • Parsley & Garlic Gremolata. Gremolata is an Italian preparation that is very similar to pesto. However, instead of putting the ingredients in a blender to puree until smooth, you finely mince everything in a coarse texture.
