Fudgie scotch rings are often a staple in many homes during the holidays but this recipe can be made any time of the year. All you'll need is walnuts, sweetened condensed milk, butterscotch morsels, vanilla and chocolate chips.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup coarsely chopped, plus 1 cup walnut halves walnuts
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup butterscotch morsels
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
for garnish maraschino cherries

Steps:

  • In top of double boiler, melt chocolate and butterscotch together with milk. Stir occasionally until mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat; add chopped walnuts and vanilla. Blend well. Chill for 1 hour until mixture thickens. Line bottom of a 9-inch pan, with a 12-inch square of foil. Place 3/4 cup walnut halves in bottom of pan, forming a 2-ich-wide flat ring. Spoon chocolate mixture in small mounds on top of walnuts to form a ring. Top with remaining walnut halves. Chill until firm enough to slice. Invert onto a serving plate and garnish with maraschino cherries.

1 cup butterscotch chips
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, divided use
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 ounces)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • In 2-cup glass measure with handle, combine butterscotch chips and 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk; set aside.
  • In 1-quart glass measure with handle, combine chocolate chips, remaining sweetened condensed milk and vanilla.
  • Cook on high for 1 minute; stir until chips are melted.
  • Stir in walnuts.
  • Spread evenly in aluminum foil-lined 8-inch square pan.
  • Melt butterscotch chips on high for 45 seconds; stir until chips are melted.
  • Spread evenly over chocolate layer.
  • Chill 3 hours or until firm.
  • Turn fudge onto cutting board; peel off foil and cut into squares.
  • Store covered in refrigerator.

1 cup halved walnuts
6 ounces chocolate chips
6 ounces butterscotch chips
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
candied cherry

Steps:

  • Line bottom of a 9" pie pan with a 12" square of aluminum foil.
  • Place a cup in center of pan.
  • Place walnut halves around cup, forming a 2" wide ring. Set aside.
  • Combine chocolate, butterscotch and condensed milk in a microwave bowl and zap for 3 minutes at High.
  • Remove from microwave and beat with spoon until glossy. Add vanilla and chopped walnuts. Chill about 1 hour.
  • Spoon mixture in mounds over walnut halves; remove cup.
  • Decorate with candied cherries.
  • Cut in pieces for serving.

  • Combine first 3 ingredients in a saucepan, reserving condensed milk can. Cook over medium-low heat until all morsels melt, stirring often. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and salt. Cool slightly (about 15 minutes).
  • Meanwhile, grease an 8" round cake pan or springform pan with butter. Line pan with 2 pieces of plastic wrap, overlapping edges and smoothing out any wrinkles. Wrap empty condensed milk can with aluminum foil, smoothing out wrinkles; place in center of cake pan.
  • Stir 1 cup candies and crushed cookies into fudge; spread fudge in cake pan, holding can firmly in center. (A second pair of hands is a big help here.) Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup chocolate candies over fudge, gently pressing candies into fudge. Cover and chill until firm (about 2 to 3 hours).
  • To unmold, carefully loosen edges with a sharp knife, and remove can from center of fudge. Carefully invert fudge onto a plate. Invert again on a serving plate or cardboard cake round for gift giving. Cut fudge into thin slices to serve.
