MULLED WHITE WINE
This warming drink has the flavorful depth of the classic red version but is lighter in body. Choose a white that's not too acidic, such as a Viognier or an oaked Chardonnay (wines that are more astringent can develop a harsh edge when heated).

Steps:
- Peel orange in strips using a vegetable peeler, being careful not to remove any pith (the white part). Push cloves into peel.
- Combine clove-studded orange peel, the star anise, ginger, water, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve sugar, and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, and add wine. Let stand for 20 minutes to mull.
- Just before serving, gently reheat mulled wine over medium heat until just beginning to simmer. Serve warm.
SLOW-COOKER WHITE CRANBERRY SPICED WINE
Warm mulled wine, with cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg, gets even more special when you add a combination of fruit juices.

- In 3 1/2 or 4-quart slow cooker, combine all ingredients; mix well.
- Cover; heat on Low setting for 3 to 4 hours. Remove cinnamon sticks with slotted spoon.
- To serve, have guests ladle hot wine into cups.

Steps:
- Place tea bags in large glass measuring cup. Pour 2 cups boiling water over. Let stand 4 minutes. Discard tea bags.
- Combine tea, wine and all remaining ingredients in medium saucepan. Stir wine mixture over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring mixture just to simmer. Remove from heat. Cover and let steep 20 minutes.
- Rewarm wine over low heat (do not boil). Discard bay leaf and cinnamon stick. Ladle wine, raisins and dried fruit into mugs and serve.
