How to Cook Royal Red Shrimp image

Royal Red Shrimp are found deep in the ocean and are red when raw. They're sweeter than regular shrimp with a flavor and texture more like lobster. Learn how to cook Royal Reds here.

2 Tbsp. unsalted butter, cut into a few pieces
1 lb. (40-50 count) Royal Red Shrimp, peeled and deveined
A pinch of salt

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  • When hot, add the shrimp.
  • Cook stirring continuously until they have all curled a bit and are opaque.
  • Immediately transfer to a plate. Sprinkle with salt and serve.

MARINATED GRILLED ARGENTINIAN RED SHRIMP

This delicious shrimp recipe has bright flavors and spices.

2 lbs Argentinian Red Shrimp
1/2 cup olive oil
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 stick butter
2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
2 tbsp chives (chopped )

Steps:

  • Whisk together all ingredients for shrimp marinade in mixing bowl.
  • Place shrimp in a gallon sized sealable plastic bag and pour marinade over shrimp. Ensure shrimp is evenly coated, force air out of bag and seal. Place on a plate and put in refrigerator for 30 minutes to two hours.
  • Light grill and set up for direct high heat. Place small oven safe sauce pan on grill over indirect heat and add butter and garlic.
  • While grill preheats, skewer shrimp onto 12" wooden skewers.
  • Place shrimp directly over heat and grill for about two minutes, flip and grill an additional two minutes.
  • Remove from grill, baste with melted butter and garlic and garnish with chopped parsley.

Ruby Red Grapefruit Sorbet Recipe - (4.3/5) image

2 large ruby grapefruits, juiced, or 1 1/2 cups pink grapefruit juice
1 teaspoon grapefruit zest
1/2 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon vodka
1 teaspoon grenadine (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Cool completely. Combine the grapefruit juice, zest and sugar/water mixture with the vodka and optional grenadine (for color) in a metal bowl. Chill in the refrigerator or by placing the metal bowl over a larger bowl filled with ice water until 40°F. Pour chilled mixture into container of an ice cream machine and churn until frozen. Scoop frozen sorbet into a container. Seal and transfer container to freezer for several hours to allow sorbet to firm up. (Sorbet can be kept frozen for up to 3 days.)

4 cups ruby red grapefruit juice
1/2 cup lemon vodka
Mint sprigs, for garnish

Steps:

  • Pour grapefruit juice into a 9-by 12-inch nonreactive glass baking pan. Place in the freezer. Freeze 6 to 7 hours, or until almost solid but still somewhat slushy. While juice is freezing, rake with a fork every hour or so to develop large, snow cone-like crystals.
  • To serve, use an ice cream scoop, and scoop into glasses. Pour 1 ounce of vodka over each ball. Garnish with mint and serve.

SIMPLE STEAMED ROYAL RED SHRIMP



Simple Steamed Royal Red Shrimp image

This recipe will work with both royal red shrimp and spot prawns. Both cook more quickly than regular shrimp. Serve this with the sauce of your choice.

1 pound royal red shrimp or spot prawns, (shells on if possible. )
Sauce of your choice

Steps:

  • Set a steamer insert into a lidded pot. If you don't have one, you can put the shrimp in a colander, or you can use a Chinese steamer if you have one. Pour in enough water so you can steam, but not enough to get the shrimp wet. Cover the pot and turn the heat to high.
  • When the water boils, put the shrimp into the steamer, cover the pot again and let this steam at full bore for 4 minutes. Turn off the heat, remove the shrimp and serve, peel and eat style.
  • NOTE: If you can't get shell-on shrimp, decrease the steaming time by a minute.

They get nice and slushy if you leave them in the freezer overnight. Just stir, scoop and serve.
  • Make a little cut in a lime wedge, push it down over the rim of a glass, and run it around the perimeter to wet the edge. Press the moistened edge into the rimming mixture. Give the margaritas a good stir before serving. Pour or scoop into rimmed glasses. Garnish with lime wedges or grapefruit slices.
