RAISIN SOUR CREAM BARS

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 9 x 13 inch pan.
- Cook first six ingredients over low heat until well blended. Set aside to cool.
- In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar, oatmeal, baking soda, butter, flour and salt until crumbly. Press half of mixture into pan.
- Pour cooked mixture over crust and crumble the other half of crust over the top.
- Bake for 20 minutes.

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar. Blend in the egg, molasses and hot coffee. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon; stir into the molasses mixture until well blended. Mix in the raisins. Pat the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for about 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until firm. To make icing, combine butter, confectioners' sugar and cold coffee in a medium bowl; beat until smooth. Frost bars while warm, but allow them to cool before cutting.

- Place raisins in a bowl. Add boiling water; let stand for 5 minutes. Drain, reserving 1 cup liquid; set the raisins and liquid aside. , In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with reserved liquid, beating well after each addition. Stir in walnuts and raisins. , Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool for 1 minute before removing to wire racks to cool completely. , For frosting, whisk brown sugar and milk until sugar is melted. Beat in confectioners' sugar until smooth. Frost cookies.

Bake at 400° for 13-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack. , In a small bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, vanilla and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Spread over cooled bars.

aka Coffee Raisin Bars. A good "olde" recipe from the 50's. Posted in answer to a request. We've been enjoying these for years. One of those old-fashioned cookie bars people always like. Not elegant or gorgeous but just plain good.

Steps:
- Combine the liquid ingredients in pot, Bring to boil, boil 5 minutes, then let cool.
- Combine the dry ingredients.
- Mix dry ingredients with cooled ingredients.
- Spread in greased floured 11 x 15 pan.
- If batter is too thick, thin with sherry or rum or water before spreading.
- Bake in a 350 oven for 20 minutes approximately
- Spread frosting on warm cake.
- I think you could adjust any of the spices to your own taste, but we liked it as is.
