CRISPY FRIED GARLIC RECIPE

Crispy Fried Garlic Recipe image

Sizzle up some quick fried garlic to use as the ultimate crispy topping for Buddha bowls, salads, pastas, and more!

Provided by Jaden

Categories     Snack

Number Of Ingredients 3

1/3 cup cooking oil (or as needed)
8 cloves garlic (sliced thinly)
Salt to taste

Steps:

  • Before cooking, prepare a clean, dry fine-mesh strainer or sieve over a bowl (to catch the oil). Line a plate with a paper towel.
  • Pour oil into a cold pan. Add garlic and heat pan over medium- to medium-low heat. Shake to disperse the garlic and cook over medium-low heat until garlic starts to crisp and reaches a light golden color throughout, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Pour garlic out into the strainer over the bowl. Sprinkle with salt and shake to remove excess oil into the bowl. Pour dry garlic out onto the paper towel-lined plate and let cool completely for best crisp.
  • Optional pre-step: bring garlic to a boil in a pot of water. Add garlic slices to a pot of water, just enough to cover. Bring to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Strain garlic, then proceed with the recipe. This helps remove extra sugars from the garlic to ensure even browning while it fries.

FRIED GARLIC PASTA

Fried Garlic Pasta image

This is for garlic lovers! Tiny pieces of garlic are fried in olive oil and served over pasta, then topped with Parmesan cheese. Don't be scared off by the amount of garlic used, it caramelizes and sweetens as it fries in olive oil. It has become a favorite in my family, including my kids.

Provided by Cindy Peterson Kilday

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     European     Italian

Time 28m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pound angel hair pasta
2 cups olive oil for frying
2 bulbs garlic, peeled and diced
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat until a piece of garlic dropped into the oil slowly bubbles. Add the garlic, and cook and stir until golden brown, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove garlic from the oil with a slotted spoon and set aside; reserve oil.
  • To serve, place the pasta onto individual serving dishes and sprinkle with fried garlic. Drizzle with a little of the frying oil and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Reserve remaining garlic-flavored oil for another use.

CRISPY FRIED GARLIC CHIPS (TỏI PHI)

Crispy Fried Garlic Chips (Tỏi Phi) image

Ultra crispy and fragrant fried garlic pieces adding texture to any dish--this recipe will give you the best ingredient with a bonus, garlic oil.

Provided by Huy Vu

Categories     Ingredients     Snack

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 2

100 g garlic (sliced or chopped)
neutral cooking oil (vegetable oil preferred)

Steps:

  • Slice or chop your garlic cloves in your desired shape. I like using a mandolin with a cut-proof glove to get ultra-skinny slices, but be careful if you don't have a glove.
  • Deep-frying: Use about 1 ½ inch of oil from the bottom of your pot and heat it up to about 300 °F. (I used about 2 cups of vegetable oil for my 3.5-quart pot). Add your garlic and swirl to ensure all the garlic is properly coated and cook until it's lightly golden brown, about 3-5 minutes. Do not leave the pot unattended because it goes from pale to brown quickly. Transfer to a paper towel to drain.
  • Pan-frying: Use a small pan to combine the garlic and just enough oil to cover the garlic. Pan-fry until they are slightly golden brown (they continue to brown and cook after you transfer them), about 3-5 minutes, and move them onto a paper towel to drain.
  • Serve the fried garlic fresh after it's cooled to the touch.
  • You have the option to save the deep-frying oil once it's cooled down for later use. (Note: if you end up burning the oil from too much deep-frying you should not reuse this oil. Signs of burned or overused oil are dark brown coloring and smells burned).

FRIED GARLIC CHIPS

Fried Garlic Chips image

We love these little guys on salads. I think they are a traditional topping on Thai-style soups and vegetables, too. I got this recipe from a library book many years ago, and was surprised not to see it on Zaar. My recipe card says it is from the book True Thai, by Victor Sodsook. Whenever I make these I use the same oil to make Crispy Shallots, which I will post right after this! Then use the flavorful oil for other cooking purposes. Be sure the garlic is sliced paper thin, using a mandoline. Enjoy!

Provided by Chef PotPie

Categories     Vegetable

Time 8m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 cup oil
1/4 cup very thinly sliced garlic (about 12 large cloves)

Steps:

  • In wok or cast iron skillet, ( I use my anodized pot with no problem, just be sure it's heavy-bottomed), bring the oil to deep fry temperature, about 350°F
  • Add garlic and fry, stirring and tossing, until a golden brown, taking care not to let any of it burn. This only takes 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • (Do Crispy Shallots in this same oil, then save the flavorful oil for cooking.).
  • Cool garlic to room temperature and store in tightly covered container for a week, or a little more. It likely will not last that long!

Time 30m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 whole fresh bulbs of garlic
boiling water

  • Heat vegetable oil in deep pot or fry cooker.
  • Dip each cooked clove of garlic into batter and fry until golden brown in color.
  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towel.
  • Serve Hot.

FRIED GARLIC

Fried Garlic image

Without the savory crunch of fried garlic, my kitchen wouldn't be the same. I use it on rice, noodles, soups, salads, vegetables, and anything else that benefits from a sprinkle of these magical golden flavor nuggets. For the Fried Garlic Noodles, I showed you how to make a quick version of fried garlic in the microwave. If you want to take your fried garlic game to the next level, though, you can fry it in large batches like we do at Tin Roof, since it will keep for several weeks. Though more labor-intensive, this cooking method produces a crispier, evenly browned fried garlic that packs a ridiculous amount of roasted garlickiness. Plus, you'll end up with an infused oil that can be used in other dishes.

Yield 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 3

8 ounces peeled garlic (about 1 ½ cups or 25 cloves)
Neutral oil, for frying
Kosher salt

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 250F. Line a baking sheet with paper towels.
  • In a food processor, pulse the garlic until finely minced.
  • Fill a medium-width, deep-sided pot halfway with water and bring to a boil, then turn off the heat. Fill a large bowl with ice water. Transfer the garlic to a sieve and submerge in the hot water, blanching for about 2 minutes. Remove and dunk the garlic in the ice water until cooled, then drain well and spread evenly onto the lined baking sheet. Bake until the garlic is dry to the touch, 12 to 15 minutes.
  • While the garlic is drying, empty out the pot and dry well. Fill the pot with at least 2 inches of oil, making sure to leave a few inches of clearance from the top of the pot. Heat the oil over medium-high until it reaches 350F (use a thermometer).
  • Have the baking sheet lined with paper towels at the ready. Add the garlic and fry until the bubbles begin to subside and the garlic turns golden and rises to the surface, 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer the fried garlic back to the paper towels and let cool completely. Season generously with salt, then transfer to a sealable container and store in a cool, dry place for up to 3 weeks. Reserve the garlic-flavored frying oil for future use.

FRIED GARLIC NOODLES

Fried Garlic Noodles image

Simple and flavorful, fried noodles seasoned with shoyu is one of those more-than-a-snack, not-quite-a-meal foods you find all over Hawai'i.

Provided by Sheldon Simeon

Categories     Noodle     Garlic     Hawaii     Soy Sauce     Quick & Easy

Yield Serves 4

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound fresh saimin, ramen, or chow mein noodles
3 tablespoons Microwave Fried Garlic, with reserved oil
2 tablespoons minced garlic (about 8 cloves)
3 tablespoons shoyu (soy sauce)
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 teaspoons instant dashi powder (such as HonDashi)
¼ cup chopped scallions
Sambal oelek, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat. Loosen the noodles and add to the pot. When the water returns to a boil, the noodles should be nearly done (2 to 3 minutes; or follow the package directions). Check the noodles by taste or touch. They should be tender but springy. Drain thoroughly.
  • In a wok or skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of the garlic oil over high heat until shimmering-hot. Add the raw garlic, stir-frying until fragrant but not browned, a few seconds. Add the noodles and toss to coat. Add the shoyu, oyster sauce, and dashi powder and continue to stir-fry for another minute or two until the sauce is absorbed.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and transfer the noodles to a serving plate or individual bowls. Reheat the fried garlic in the microwave until crispy, 10 to 15 seconds, keeping an eye (and a nose) on it so it doesn't burn.
  • Garnish the noodles with scallions and fried garlic before serving. Top with sambal if desired.

CRISPY FRIED GARLIC AND GARLIC OIL RECIPE

Crispy Fried Garlic and Garlic Oil Recipe image

Make crispy fried garlic and fried-garlic oil in a flash-on the stovetop or in the microwave.

Provided by Sasha Marx

Categories     Condiments and Sauces

Time 25m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 heads garlic (about 5 ounces; 140g total), cloves separated, peeled, and trimmed
1 cup (240ml) vegetable oil
Kosher salt
Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Steps:

  • If cooking on stovetop: Combine chopped garlic and oil in a 2-quart saucepan or wok. Place over medium-high heat and cook, stirring frequently with a heat-resistant rubber spatula, until garlic begins to bubble steadily, 2 to 3 minutes. Continue cooking, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides and bottom of the saucepan to ensure even cooking and prevent garlic from sticking and scorching, until garlic turns pale golden brown, 5 to 7 minutes longer. Working quickly, pour contents of saucepan into prepared strainer set over bowl. (Garlic will continue cooking for a brief period after draining, so do not allow it to get too dark.) If cooking in microwave: Combine garlic and oil in a large microwave-safe bowl and stir to break up any clumps. Microwave on high power for 5 minutes. Stir with a heat-resistant rubber spatula, scraping down sides of the bowl. Continue to microwave in 2-minute increments, stirring between each round, until garlic begins to turn lightly golden, 4 to 8 minutes total. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each round, until evenly pale golden brown, 30 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds longer. Working quickly, pour contents of bowl into strainer set over bowl. (Garlic will continue cooking for a brief period after draining, so do not allow it to get too dark.)
