This recipe recently won 3rd place in a local homemade ice cream competition. It has also been in our family for over 40 years.

- In a gallon ice cream freezer container, mix together the sweetened condensed milk, cream, white sugar, grape juice, and lemon juice. Pour in enough whole milk to fill the container to the fill line.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions to freeze the ice cream.

My husband, two daughters and I first enjoyed this refreshing treat at our friends' house. They graciously shared the recipe after we all raved about it. The sherbet is always popular at ice cream socials.

- In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients. Fill cylinder of ice cream freezer; freeze according to manufacturer's directions. Transfer sherbet freezer container, allowing headspace for expansion. Freeze 4 hours or until firm.

- You can also freeze for an 'ice cream' like consistency. Place sherbet in an air tight container, such as a Tovolo Ice Cream Tub, and freeze for at least 3-4 hours to harden. Scoop onto a cone or into a bowl and enjoy!!

- Pinch the grapes with your fingers, dropping the pulp into a medium-sized, non-reactive saucepan and the skins into the bowl of a blender or food processor fitted with a blade.
- Cook the pulp over medium heat until it begins to break down and the seeds release. Strain the pulp through a fine mesh sieve over the skins, using the back of a ladle to push all the pulp through. Discard the seeds. Purée the skins and de-seeded pulp together until smooth.
- Pour the grape mixture back into the sauce pan. Stir in the sugar and vanilla pod. Cook over medium until the mixture just reaches a simmer and the sugar dissolves. Stir in the orange liqueur. Cover and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before adding the cream. Chill until cold.
- About 20 minutes before you’re ready to churn the sherbet, pop the mixture into the freezer to get it really cold. Churn in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer instructions. You might need to return the sherbet to the freezer to firm up before serving.
