This is a fantastic, easy to make main dish recipe for a weekend or working mom. Serve with creamy mashed potatoes and steamed runner beans.

8 beef frankfurters
1 teaspoon butter
1 onion, thinly sliced
¾ cup ketchup
¼ cup yellow mustard
¼ cup honey

Steps:

  • Bring a saucepan of water to a boil. Add frankfurters and cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until heated through; drain.
  • Heat butter in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Saute onion until translucent. Stir in ketchup, mustard and honey. Stir in frankfurters.

4 hot dogs jumbo (1/2 lb. total)
2 tablespoons water
1 (6-ounce) can apple juice unsweetened apple juice (3/4 cup)
1 onion medium thinly sliced
1/4 cup packed
2 apples medium Golden Delicious peeled and cut in chunks

Steps:

  • 1. Score frankfurters. In a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat, cook frankfurters in water until browned and plumped. Set frankfurters aside and rinse skillet.2. Place apple juice, onion and brown sugar in skillet. Cover and cook over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes or until onion is tender. Stir in apples, cover and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until apples are tender. Add franks, cover and cook for 2 minutes or until franks are heated through.

1 (15-ounce) can pineapple chunk packed in juice
1 pound hot dog
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 green bell pepper large, cut in 1" squares
1/4 cup onion chopped
1 clove garlic minced
1 cup beef broth or bouillon
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
white rice Hot cooked

Steps:

  • Drain pineapple reserve juice.Slice frankfurters in half lengthwise then diagonally into 1-inch pieces. In a 10-inch skillet over medium heat sauté frankfurters in butter or margarine for 7 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.Add green pepper, onion and garlic cook and stir for 1 minute. Remove from heat.Add pineapple, broth or bouillon and brown sugar.In a small bowl mix reserved pineapple juice and cornstarch until smooth. Gradually stir into skillet. Stirring over medium heat, bring to a boil and boil for 1 minute.Serve over rice.

2 cups apple butter
1 cup chicken stock
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
1/4 cup apple juice
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup or honey
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Kosher salt
One 1-pound package smoked cocktail franks

Steps:

  • In the bowl of a medium slow cooker (3-quart), combine the apple butter, chicken stock, BBQ sauce, apple juice, maple syrup or honey, red pepper flakes and a pinch of salt. Whisk to thoroughly combine. Add the cocktail franks, stirring to mostly submerge them in the sauce. Cover and cook on high until heated through, about 3 hours. Serve warm in the sauce.

This was another one of my Mom's recipes that I thought was wonderful, although my siblings didn't care much for sauerkraut! Very inexpensive with a German flair, and in my opinion, very tasty! Especially when served with crusty, warm bread and a side of buttered noodles!

2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 teaspoon minced garlic
1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut, undrained
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
6 frankfurters (or kosher-style beef franks)

Steps:

  • In a 10-inch skillet over low heat, melt butter until just sizzling. Sauté onion and garlic, stirring often until wilted but not quite browned.
  • Add sauerkraut, water, brown sugar and red wine vinegar; Mix well.
  • Bury franks in kraut.
  • Cover and simmer until liquid has evaporated, about 1/2 hour.
  • Serve with warm, buttered, crusty bread.

  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium-high heat; cook and stir apples, onion, brown sugar, and cinnamon in the melted butter until onions are translucent and sauce is slightly reduced, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool before serving.
