Steps:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 450 degrees F).
- While the grill preheats, add the ground hot and sweet Italian sausage in a large bowl. Roll up your sleeves and use your hands to combine.
- Form the meat into four balls and lightly press each into 5-inch-wide, 1 ¼ -inch-thick patties.
- In the middle of each burger, use your knuckle or thumb to make a 2-inch indentation (this will keep the burgers from puffing when grilled).
- Place the patties on the preheated grill. Leave them undisturbed until grill marks form on the bottom, about 5-6 minutes.
- Flip the burgers and grill until the burgers feel firm and the other side is marked for about 4-6 minutes.
- Remove the burgers from the grill and top each with a slice of Provolone cheese.
- Move the burgers to the toasted Kaiser rolls and top with roasted bell peppers, pepper rings, and basil leaves.
- Serve and enjoy.

Steps:
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Saute mushrooms, onions and peppers until tender, 7 to 8 minutes then season with salt and pepper. Deglaze the pan with stock.
- Combine the sausage and sirloin with grill seasoning, garlic and parsley. Mix and form 4 patties thinner at the center and thicker at the edges for even cooking and to keep burgers from bulging. Heat cast iron or nonstick skillet with 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium-high heat, cook patties 12 minutes turning once and top with mushrooms, onions and peppers and 2 slices of cheese. Turn heat off and cover pan with foil to melt cheese, 2 minutes. Pile on buns and serve.
OWENS SAUSAGE AND GROUND BEEF BACKYARD BURGERS
This recipe was included in an ad in my local paper. It sounded so good that we had to try it. We used Owens rolled sausage since I had the coupon. It was great, but I'm sure other sausage brands would work too! The recipe originally said to make 8 patties, but they ended up so small that I decided next time I will make 6 larger patties. We used regular flavored sausage, but my husband and I love spicy food, so I can't wait to try this recipe using hot flavored sausage. Be sure to have all your favorite burger toppings on hand like lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc.**Update - made these patties for the 4th of July and used 96/4 extra lean hamburger since the sausage is so "fatty". Doubled the recipe and made 12 patties. They came out just the right size. Huge hit with all the guests! Many tried to guess the "secret ingredient" and were amazed when I told them it was breakfast sausage mixed with the beef.

GERMAN HAMBURGERS (FRIKADELLEN)
The original hamburger, these are served like a flattened meatball with some steamed string beans and salad. I also like to use this recipe to make Swedish meatballs (but omit the paprika). My Aunt in Hamburg, Germany taught me this recipe and I've been making them ever since. Serve with steamed string beans and tossed salad. Or serve on a Kaiser roll with lettuce, tomato, pickled cucumbers, finely sliced deep fried onions and curry ketchup.

- In a medium bowl, combine the ground chuck with the sausage just until they are thoroughly mixed. Form the meat into four 4-inch patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
- In a large cast-iron skillet, heat the olive oil until shimmering. Add the patties to the skillet and press down slightly with a spatula to flatten them to a 1/2-inch thickness. Cook the patties over moderately high heat until very crusty on the bottom, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip the patties and cook until well browned, about 2 minutes more. Top each patty with 2 slices of the Monterey Jack cheese and add the water to the skillet. Cover the skillet and cook over moderate heat until the cheese slices are melted and the burgers are cooked all the way through, 1 to 2 minutes.
- Set the cheeseburgers on the toasted buns and top with the cilantro leaves and sliced pickled peppers. Close the burgers and serve right away.
