Figs Oozing with Goat Cheese image

Fresh figs stuffed with succulent goat cheese, wrapped in grape leaves, roasted on the grill, and drizzled with honey. For an extra oomph of flavor, skewer the figs on rosemary fronds. One bite and you'll feel as if you've reached nirvana!

8 fresh figs
½ cup goat cheese, softened
8 grape leaves, drained and rinsed
½ cup honey
skewers

Steps:

  • Preheat grill for medium heat.
  • Make a small incision in the bottom of each fig (large enough to hold pastry bag tip). Place goat cheese in pastry bag with plain tip. Fill figs with goat cheese by squeezing a small amount of cheese into the bottom of each fig. The figs will plump up when filled. Wrap each fig with a grape leaf, and skewer 2 to 3 figs on each skewer.
  • Lightly oil the grill grate. Place fig skewers on hot grill. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, turning once. Drizzle with honey, and serve.

2 ounces, approximately, of soft, fresh goat cheese
1 tablespoon good balsamic vinegar
12 fresh figs, washed and drained

Steps:

  • Use your fingers to roll the goat cheese into 24 1/2 teaspoon-sized balls.
  • Cut figs in half. Press a cheese ball into the center of each fig. Plate them and drizzle with vinegar. Serve within an hour.

  • Preheat the oven to 200 °C or 390 °F. Cut off the stems and make an X cut in the top of each fig half way through.
  • Stuff the figs with soft goat cheese using a teaspoon. Sprinkle some chopped walnuts and sage over your stuffed figs and drizzle them with honey. Add salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. I used Le Creuset rectangular baking dish for this recipe and it was just the right size.
  • Broil for about 5 minutes or until they look soft and release juice. Serve them warm or cold with a glass of wine. Enjoy!
